 ???

When Pierce requested a trade in 2007, either that or bring some talent to Boston. Is that being a "Celtic" ?

Or is that the business side?

I don't remember Pierce requesting a trade. For the most part, he stayed quiet.

Question - are you a Celtics fan? Or just a Ray Allen fan?

Yeah IIRC he never asked for a deal, but talked honestly --- i think this was around the time TMac was trying to get out of ORL, or something --- that he was tired of a losing team (and that team was CLEARLY headed in the wrong direction).

I don't even think -- though i could be misremembering --- that it was as forceful as what Kevin Love has recently said.

He did.

But the way Paul Pierce went about the whole thing was totally classy, to me.

At the same time that this happened, Kobe Bryant's very vocal demands to be traded back in 06-07 drowned out just every other piece of NBA news back then. But Paul did in fact say to Danny - "Either bring in the talent for us to compete, or please trade me to a another team" or something along those lines.

But Paul went about it TOTALLY different than Kobe did...Paul was a bit more reserved with his requests.

That's what I was thinking. I remember Kobe appearing on radio shows publicly demanding a trade that summer.

It's neither. PP gets paid either way, so it's Pierce looking out for himself. But he gave the organization reasonable options, didn't pout, and he followed through when they delivered. Good enough for me.

Yep.

Paul NEVER threatened the organization or anything like that. His tone was totally different than Kobe's, from what I remember.

It's for that reason that I could never dislike Paul Pierce. His requests at the time probably set in motion what Danny NEEDED to do - and that was make some moves.

Thank You, Paul!

I'd say yes, becaudse he didn't really want to leave, he just wanted to win.

Basically, he was trying to determine whether or not the team was truly interested in trying to win during the few years he had left of his prime.  If the team really was going to take the long road, they would have been better served by trading him anyway.  It's not entirely different from what KG did, just more overt and player intiated.

Management agreed, and made the necessary moves to put complimentary talent around him.

I just did a quick google search and found this article on the topic.  I didn't find anything where Paul was quoted directly saying he was requesting a trade.

If the Captain did indeed put pressure on management to pull off a big move to put the team back in contention, then all I can say is "thank you, Truth!!"

Yeah Pierce saw a team going nowhere and said, go somewhere, or get me outta here.

We went somewhere, he took his coat off an stayed a while.

Nothing wrong with a player telling team management that he's not okay spending the tail of his prime on a rebuilding team, especially given that it was done privately.

Pierce indicated he was unhappy losing publically, but never demanded a trade on national radio or via his agent in a press release.

Plus IIRC Doc said at one point that they thought they could convince Paul that Oden/Durant could be worth being a "mentor" to and were talented enough to win soon.

Once we fell so far down in the lottery though he wanted the pick traded for help, which worked out for everyone.  ;D

The celtics had a very young roster with just him as the veteran at the time, i remember almost every nba insider saying the celtics should trade pierce because they are going in a new direction with the younger players.

Pierce up to this point hasnt really had a roster that could compete for a championship , all he had was walker, ricky davis's of the world

so in 2005-2006, he said if they are gonna rebuild they should trade him

Pierce Never DEMANDED a trade, Kobe did though and he was always strapped with Great Players and coaches

I understand Pierce's frustration, and it was a threat of a trade demand that arguably led to Danny making the moves for KG and Ray.  Plus, Danny had also came very close to trading Pierce in the past.

I think it's a fair point when people question Ray's "loyalty", though.
