Do you think the 2012-2013 Celtics are deep enough to...

1. Give KG, Pierce, and even JET whole nights off against weaker, faster moving teams?
2. Have Jeff Green focus the majority of his time on learning to defend LeBron (essentially becoming LeBane)?
3. Keep Melo on the bench to give him another year to learn the sport?

And so on... Post your thoughts!

I think it depends on a couple of things...

If Pierce rests, who backs up Green?  [this is why it matters whether we sign Joseph this year or retain Daniels for one more.]

If KG rests, can Collins back up Wilcox, and can Green or Sullinger play minutes at the 4 to back up Bass if Wilcox starts?

I'm okay if JET rests by splitting time evenly among the youthful 3 guard combo of the present/future.

1. We may be deep enough to do the first, but I don't see that happening, except at the end of the season.  Their competitors, and they'll all want to play.  At the end of the year, if a game has little-to-no bearing on playoff seeding, then they sit, but otherwise, they'll play.

2. I don't really understand how one learns to play defense on Lebron without playing against him, so I don't know how to focus his time on that.  But no, I don't think we're deep enough to send a player to some virtual reality chamber where he comes back programmed to stop LeBron.

3. I think it's the expectation of Doc and Danny that Melo will spend most of the season in Portland.

What I was thinking was he'd watch tape after tape after tape of LeBron.

1. I hope so. The more fresh they are come playoff time the better our shot at beating Miami. I think a huge reason we lost was just being physically dead, not to mention the injuries (which could also be attributed to playing too many minutes). I think our added depth is primarily if not secondarily done to give them as much rest as possible, maybe/hopefully even whole nights off during the season. We have 22 back to backs so maybe the second of those, we'll see.

2. I hope he can develop into a good LBJ stopper cause Pierce will probably lose another step in his defensive ability and if we wanna beat miami we need someone to at least slow him down significantly.

3. I feel he'll play a lot in Maine. Maybe he'll develop enough where he'll come back at mid season and come off the bench.

No, I don't think we're deep enough to leave a major rotation piece in the film room for most of the season, with the sole purpose of stopping one player.

Alright, I guess I'm not making myself clear. Obviously at a contract of around 9mil, Jeff Green will play, and he will play plenty. 25-30 minutes a night. I'm just saying in addition to that, he has a weekly or daily film session with Doc looking at what LeBron did over the last few days. Learn his style, learn to stop it.

LeBron isn't a great player because he has a vast array of moves and people don't know what to expect from him. It's because he's bigger/faster/stronger and does what he wants anyways.

i think doc n co. will try their best to mold him into a lebron stopper but as the person above me stated you can only do so much to stop him. eventually his superior athletic ability/build will overcome

Yeah this is exactly right.  And I think this postseason he became also more aggressive and became a virtually flawless decision maker.  He was always a good one but now he knows how to mix that with a cut throat mentality.

1. not until the end of the season where a game of rest might be useful.  I think the team is deep enough that these 3 won't have to log 40-minutes games this season.
2. I'd be happy if he learns the D and handles the rotations really well.  I'd like him to be able to defend whoever he plays.  Better yet, have him develop a post game so that when he does play against Bron, he can take the smaller Bron in the post and go over him.
3. Pretty safe assumption that Melo won't be seeing the court any time this year (or probably next year)

If we're really just concerned about Pierce and KG, then hte question becomes is a bench of Bradley, Bass, and Collins do it.  I think there needs to ba another wing to do this, and a 2nd round rookie isn't going to cut it.

If Pietrus is out, I hope Daniels is in.

You can't rest all of KG, Truth, Jet and Rondo and expect much.

But as long as one of Rondo/KG/Truth plays, the team can't be too bad.

Never said anything about Rondo. Honestly, I want him averaging 35-40 a game.
