This team is much more athletic and will have a full training camp to learn the rotations.

They will also have more size than last year when Bass was the only PF in the playoffs.

Allen was a liability for the most part and you could really see it when he played top 2 guards like DWade.  He couldn't stay in front of any of them.

Jeff Green's size will be a big plus guarding the bigger 3's.

Wilcox back will be helpful

Courtney Lee and Terry can defend.

Even Jason Collins can slow down some of the top bigs, some thing Steimsma couldn't do even though he was a prolific shot blocker his man to man D was terrible.

This team will score more and still be a top 3 defensive unit in the league.

Just want one more PF/c with shot blocking and we are looking GOOD

I think we will be top 5 defenses again.

Couple factors IMO on whether we will be the best of the best.

-Is KG ever going to slow down. Will he play enough in general.

-When will AB be back and will he get enough minutes to have an impact.

-Is Lee really that good a defender?

-Is Terry really that bad a defender?

-What is Green? Is he going to be become a very good defender or is he going to be in the "decent" category.

Just some random thoughts of mine. I do think that we should be up there especially if you are talking about defense in the playoffs where KG will play bigger minutes and our defense tends to pick it up another notch.

I expect to be very good again defensively, but other than Lee, the new signings aren't very good defenders.  Green is poor to average, Terry isn't a defender, Wilcox is clueless, and I expect Sullinger to be excellent on the boards but I don't think he will be an above average defender.  Collins will help defensively if he plays.

Terry is tough and gritty and I think a better defender against quick guards than ray.  He always has some difficulty with bigger guards.

Another year with Avery when Healthy paired with Rondo let's Rondo save energy and pick his spots defensively.

Wilcox isn't clueless he just wasn't in good shape to start the year.  He is a decent post defender.

Jeff Green at the 4 is average but he has all the physical tools to be a great defender at the 3.

Melo and Sully likely will take time but as one mentioned Sully will work the boards something we haven't had.

Bass also made huge strides throughout the course of the season.

IF KG can't not drop off we could be scary good..

Team is way more athletic and now has younger legs...

Yup. Which makes me think that the same thing will happen to Terry, Green, Lee, and maybe Wilcox as the season drags on. Those guys were either never here, or only here for part of the season last time.

no doubt our defense will be awesome this year!!

but our offense i believe also will be way better this year...

we can go big... we can play small...

we have cutters... we have spotters... we have fliers... we have bangers... we have very good free throw shooters...

rondo will make his teammates look good... but his teammates will make rondo look better...

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I think we'll be the best defensive team this year. Us and the Heat probably. We are going to be absolutely beastly. Our only weaknesses will be Pierce and Terry as far as major minute players go.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

30th in rebounding.

That's going to change.

I'm skeptical that it'll change much.

We're still going to be one of the slowest paced teams in the league and we're still going to be a bad offensive rebounding team via scheme.

I'm hopeful our defensive rebounding will tick up, but that's it.

I think rebounding is the one thing Sullinger will be able to do well out of the gate at an elite level.   I think he will be fine in other areas but this kid boxes out and has nice hands.   If he plays he will help in this regard.
