I don't see a trade happening unless it's too good to be true.

The refs took a win from us and we gave the Heat a win in Game 6 and we still made it to a Game 7 tied going into the 4th quarter.

I want this roster to go into training camp together and gel. I don't see any other team worth mentioning about besides the Heat and they only added Ray Allen who may or may not be healthy.

Ainge definitely has stockpiled plenty of assets I just don't know who he could trade for that would be worth it this season.

Obvisouly I have no idea who or what could be available but I just feel like it's not worth doing unless you are getting a sure thing like we did with KG.

I don't want to trade the farm for a guy like Josh Smith (not that anyone would) or something like that. I would only want to do it for a legit #1. Is that crazy?

This is the team until proven otherwise.  Don't see a trade at all, unless we are really struggling at the deadline or a BIG piece is available, like DH. They've put together a very clear team here with depth and role players that fit together. It's not a Houston type situation where it's all assets and no team. We are kinda the opposite, a real team with not many guys we would look to move. I'd be shocked if there's a major move. This team is well constituted, not a collection of random assets.

In support of this view, it seems the name most often me tuned as a trade candidate on this blog these days is Bradley, and trading him makes no sense at all as he's cheap, young, very effective without being a big scorer and hurt. That's an asset you keep, but others would likely be slightly leery of since you are buying potential and health, but no one knows about AB's health and potential as well as we do, so trade partners would question why we are do eager to trade.

Woo kooky trade ideas. My favorite threads :)

I was thinking about what Orlando is asking from teams that want Howard and I realized that we have all of those things. We have all of our upcoming 1st rounders. We have young and somewhat tested talent in Green/Lee/Bass/Sully. We have the ability to take on some salary, Jason Richardson for instance. It seems plausible for us to land Dwight at the deadline (when we can trade our newly signed players) but it would be a fairly steep price, both in talent and salary.

Green/Bass/Lee/Sully/+3M left under apron = Howard/Richardson. If we gave up that list of talent 2-3 2st round picks we'd have to ensure Howard signed long term but I have to say it looks to be worth it on its face.

Rondo
Bradley
Pierce
KG
Howard

Bench:
PG/SG-Terry
PF/C-Wilcox
SG-Richardson
PG-Dooling
C-Collins
SF-Joseph
C-Melo

And we could probably find a way to swing waiving Collins and getting Pietrus to come back for vet's minimum. He'd have the inside track at a championship and get plenty of minutes. That might convince him to step in for less than he's worth. If not Matt Barnes would take the minimum to play here with Howard I bet. We'd have options at vet min. SF for sure.

If Orlando would play ball I think the steep price would be worth it. A core of Rondo/Bradley/Howard is ridiculous and would keep us in the hunt for 5-7 years. The next 2 years with Paul we would be heavy favorites for sure.

Anything is possible!

The ONLY way i would even entertain a trade is if we are struggling come trade deadline. If we are doing real good which is extremely likely if we stay healthy then we would have to be STUPID to break that up. You can't just stick a boarder line allstar in a team and expect it to just click no worries. I like smith i want smith but right now i love our team just the way it is and until they show otherwise this is the team i wanna roll with.

Yes, Danny will engage in trade discussions with other teams, especially as the Feb trade deadline approaches.

Why:

(1) The Cs won't be able to improve in the offseason via FAs given how close to the cap the Cs already are.
(2) Danny believes (and I think he's right) that the best way to put a championship team on the floor is to trade for All Star players. They get the benefit of the doubt from the refs in what is basically a rigged system. He's no dummy, he realizes this.

i never thought about that before - good point.

.... that said, I don't get the obsession with Josh Smith. Yes, he is apparently available, but he is not enough of an All Star to really entice Danny. He'd like to pull a trade similar to what he did for KG or RA. The key is to think of players that want to move, who belong to cash strapped teams, who are All Stars or potential All Stars.

Well, I guess Smith is a borderline All Star, so someone to keep on the list. Iggy is another to keep on the list. I think Tyreke Evans, if his health improves, is another. Think Kevin Love. Think Chris Paul.

First of all I would rather have what we have right now then trade away solid players for a hopessly overrated and overpriced sloth like Kevin Love.

Love is an unathletic big man who plays on the perimeter.  He's an elite rebounder with range, but other then that he has an average post game, an average midrange game and he couldn't defend a tank from a water pistol. He's basically Troy Murphy 2.0 from when Murphy was in his prime.  Sullinger alrady does everything love does, Love just does it better - and considering the experience advantage, so he should.

Josh Smith is one of the most freakish combinations of size and athleticism in the game today.  He's an excellent rebounder, can score inside or out, is a world class defender, and is one of the best passing big men in the game.  Boston fans are always raving about getting a guy who can defend Lebron - there would be very few in the league who could do that better then Josh Smith. The only downside to him have been his questionable attitude and shot selection, and both have improved dramatically.

Seriously fail to understand what the big obsession is with Love, who is well known for stat padding just to get his rebound numbers and who manages to *shock* score lots of points as the number one (and only) capable scorer his team.

I like the way this team is being constructed.  It all comes down to whether or not everyone stays healthy and plays their role. If they do, we will be in the Eastern Conference finals and if get there anything can happen as you all know...

Am i crazy to think the celtics have built enough assetts to trade for Howard

I think something like this would be very enticing to orlando, even more so then Bynum

Avery Bradley
Fab Melo
Jeff Green
1st round pick
1st round pick
Jared Sullinger to another team that sends a player to orlando they want

Celtics could then have this lineup

Howard
Garnett
Pierce
Lee
Rondo

Terry
Bass
Wilcox
Pietrus, signed back
Christmas
Dooling

A deal centered around Jeff Green isn't going to get it done.

I'd rather wait thirty games into the season before we talk about trading people.

We don't really have a choice, since the majority of the team cannot be traded until either December 15 or January 15.

If Orlando is truly taking the path similar to that of OKC, then this package seems to be attractive. If Dwight doesn't like the idea of playing for us then we can trade him for Bynum. Our second unit though would need a lot of beef in the PF and C positions. Bass, Collins and Wilcox wouldn't just get it done.

Why wouldnt Bass Wilcox and collins be enough?

the celtics would have Howard and Garnett as starters downlow, Howard would eat close to 40 minutes per game at center(35 mpg at least) and kg about 28-30 mpg, that would be the best center pf in the league easily too.

then you have Bass at Backup PF who can play anywhere from 20-30 mpg , he would be a great backup pf

wilcox getting the minutes at center when howard is out

thats pretty solid to me

I think with what C's would be offering a Josh Smith level talent is the ceiling, Howard level talent just won't be gettable.
