That is a pretty solid team.

I am thinking 45-50 wins. Maybe more if those shooting guards pan out.
Wow, I generally don't think GMs think about color when picking guys but what are the odds of a team with 8 of their top 10 players are white?  Isn't the league 75% black?  There is nothing wrong with it I guess as most of them are actually decent players, I just think people will think Kahn only wants white guys.  This has to be the whitest team in like 20 years at least.

More white people live in freezing cold places - it shouldn't be surprising that they are more willing to work in Minnesota.  Heck, the Russians probably think it's too temperate.

This thread has taught me one thing: nobody looks at the color of the skin the NBA until one team puts "too many white guys" on a single roster...  SMH.

I'm smh that you're apparently so sensitive.

The fact is, the league is about 75% black, so this is quite the statistical anomaly... it's worth pointing out and talking about it. In fact it's so out-there that it's hard to imagine this happened by chance, which makes it even more interesting.

They are going to be a FEISTY squad this year! Playoff bound? (I don' think so)

I'm not sensitive... I'm white myself.  I just don't understand why THIS is an issue, and it's one being mocked at.  It serves to teach us here that, yes, skin color is still an issue in the NBA and provided a team is all-black it's no big deal...almost expected.  But put "too many" white players on a single team and suddenly it becomes a running joke.  Re-read some of the comments here, even stating the climate of Minnesota is more conducive to white players.  I'm not over-reacting...just stating my opinion, which is fully allowed here.

i'd say 45-37 or if not 42-42
They were 21-20 when Rubio got hurt last year.  If him and Pekovic are healthy, I'd say they are a much better team this year and would be surprised if they weren't a 50 win team.

Well, I would say his comparables as starting quality SF/PF tweener would be Jeff Green and Gerald Wallace.  Both got significantly more guaranteed money than he did (reportedly) this summer.  So, it seems about right.

Although I do question the idea of putting him at SF.  He was always more productive as a PF, and really struggled when he was forced to be more of a full time SF in Utah.

Either way though, this is going to be a heck of a fun team to watch once Rubio gets back (and even before).  I would love to see them throwing out a lineup of Rubio, Buddinger, Williams, Kirilenko, Love.  They might not be able to stop anyone, but they will put on a show in the open court.

I'd say AK-47 is better than Green, or rather at least he showed he could be a high level player at one of his two positions (PF). But he's much older of course and if they're using him at SF (or if he can't handle PF anymore) then they're pretty comparable.

Minnesota should be a playoff team with the cast they've assembled around Rubio and Love.

Rubio's health is critical to their success.  They proved last season that Love is simply not enough.  Rubio's the engine, much like Rondo is to us...  Without him, even with this new collection of players, they are still lottery bound.

(EDIT: The below post is extrapolation based on wins produced numbers for the Timberwolves roster last season. I know some people on this forum have an irrational dislike for advanced metrics. If you are one of them, ignore this post.)

Rubio, Pekovic, and Love alone are worth around 20 wins between them (if you trust advanced metrics ... which you should, but that's a different argument for a different day), assuming all stay healthy and produce at least on the level they did last season. Presumably Rubio and Pekovic will play more minutes than last year, which will up the number of wins to mid 20s for that core.

That's pretty [dang]ed good.

Getting rid of Darko was a great move. He is terrible. Getting rid of Beasley was also a good move. I know people here overrate him, but he is not an efficient player, and all the advanced metrics show that he costs his team wins.

Kirilenko and Roy are both X factors, because it is impossible to predict how well they will play this season. Two or three years ago he was a superstar, but it is unlikely he will play at that level again. Still, if he is only HALF the player he was then, that's worth 6 wins (in his prime he produced ~13 wins ... he won't get more than that, so 6-8 seems about right). The last time Kirilenko played in the league he produced around 8 wins. Since he is old and has been out of the league you expect that to drop, but not by that much, so let's give him 5 wins.

So just this core for next season is getting you at least 35-38 wins, depending on health (especially Roy and Rubio) and minute allocation (we don't know their full roster or situationals yet).

I don't know what the rest of the roster looks like (haven't paid attention), but assuming the rest of the roster is the same as last year, they all produced around 9 wins, give or take.

Add it all up, and advanced metrics predict this team next year should win at least 44-47 games. Not too shabby.

It would've been impossible but I would've loved to get Kirilenko.  Oh well.

His inconsistent outside shot isn't ideal for a role player but his overall package as a 4 next to KG would've been amazing.

When Rubio is back, they look better than the Mavericks, Blazers, Rockets, Hornets, Kings, Warriors, Suns and probably Jazz. A lot of blown up/rebuilding teams in the west and the Timberwolves should be ahead of the pack.

MIN were actually one of my favorite teams to watch when Rubio was healthy. Just something magical about a pass first PG these days. Give me a flashy pass over slashing dunks any day of the week.
