Sweet jesus..
When you lose, the easy part is to see who gives up. Giving up is very simple. You basically take your stuff and walk away. To continue to work and to continue to compete is one of the most difficult things, especially when you really don't have anything - KG

Why not sign Ryan Gomes. Proven player that knows Doc's system.

I actually have had this thought a couple times.  But I just think Gomes will end up going someplace where he has more of a chance at minutes.

I think he would be a nice option if Pierce or Green get hurt, an they need another SF who can swing to the PF spot, but short of that happening, he would just be buried on the bench, and I don't think he would sign up for that.

So wait, are we amnestying Paul Pierce so that we can have $4-5 million to offer Serge Ibaka in this scenario?  I'm going to vote no on this one.  Very big no.

How would we save money this year to get Serge Ibaka next year, we only have one roster spot left, how much do you possibly think we could "save"?

well, it all depends what happens to PP or KG this year...If one of them gets injured, then the C's amnesty whoever it is.  or better yet, retire him.  with that, i believe the C's will pay him what his contract states, but it will be not be included in the computation of the salary cap...with that, we have money now to offer serge, or better yet, howard.

This is incorrect. We are WELL over cap. We'd have to somehow get KG AND Paul off the books + renounce their rights to free up enough to go after Serge.

By resigning KG, Bass, and Green, we've pretty much taken ourselves out of the major free agent market for the next few yrs.

I shouldn't bump this thread, but I'm going to.

KG can't be amnestied.  Please never suggest this again.  The rules do not allow it.

Pierce can be amnestied.  The only way on earth that this happens is that he tells DA he wants to retire.  This will make many of us sad, so please don't suggest that again, either.

The only other player who can be amnestied is Rondo, because only players who signed their contract before last season are eligible for amnesty.  That's not going to happen, unless Rondo winds up in jail for the next decade.  That would obviously be very unfortunate for many people, so let's not hope for that to happen, either.

Now, to play devil's advocate for you.  If we amnestied Pierce, chose not to pick up Bradley's option and renounced him, renounced all of our other cap holds, and renounced use of the mid-level and bi-annual, we would have about $54 million committed next season.  If the cap gets as high as $66 million, which is possible if you just go off the projections they put in the CBA, we would have $12 million to go after Ibaka with.  That's probably not enough to get him, but it would at least be competitive.  Of course, it'd also probably make our team worse next year.

I'd like to see that insurance policy at the 3 also, but I'd prefer someone who has a more than a snowball's chance in heck of guarding LeBron (ala Pietrus). I recognize that's a very short list at the vet min. Delfino? Josh Howard? Donte Greene? Matt Barnes? K-Mart?

Our best bet would be for Sullinger to turn out great making Bass expendable and for Bradley to come back strong making Lee or Terry expendable at the trade deadline.  Those two contracts might bring back a disgruntled impact player.
