Sullinger will finish in the top 5 in ROY voting

First things first, he will not win it. No way, no how.

However, I think he ends up getting major minutes on this team between playing the four and backing up at the five. I also was watching one of the Vegas games when Greg Anthony remarked that he spoke to Doc at length and Doc said that they were already discussing starting Sullinger.
Here is why he will get time: One, he rebounds. Period.
Two, he has great hands and passes well. I can not wait to watch Sullinger take entry passes from Rondo on the block. The passing is vital to how the Celtics run their offense. Remember we were so pleased at how Bass took up passing a bit as the season progressed? The offense still bogged down from time to time with Bass out there. Sullinger is a brilliant passer and fits in better with the way the Celtics run their offense. Third and finally, Sullinger produces in the post. He scores or draws fouls at an outstanding rate. How many times did you watch a game and said to yourself: "If only we could dump it down low and get two or a foul......I wonder if we could get Big Al back from Utah?" Boys and girls, I give you a better version of Al Jefferson. More desire on defense, better passer, better outside shooter.
Particularly when the playoffs come around and the game slows down, we will be thanking our lucky stars Sullinger is on our team. The rate that guy draws fouls and then converts is outstanding. It will be of vital help to us throughout the season.
All of these things combine to see a player that I think will get between 20 to 30 minutes a game. We simply do not have a better back up center honestly. During the summer league games, Sullinger barely played at the 4. He was basically the center for the team. Melo backed him up. I think we will see him getting most of his minutes at the 5. Along with being the 4 when Green plays the 3. (Really want to see Green just play the 3 but that is another post)
So there you have it. Feel free to let me have it next year around April or so if I am wrong. Just remember, I was extolling Bradley's abilities after watching him down here in Texas. I got that one right so I am feeling good about this one. As Sir Charles likes to say: I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

I think he will push his way to 20 to thirty minutes and his efficiency at putting up numbers will carry him to that top 5 finish. He averaged 17 a game on only 11 shots a game in college. Pretty solid.

On a bottomfeeder team, maybe. On the Boston Celtics, as much as I believe Sullinger will be productive, I can't see him cracking the top 5 in ROY voting. There are too many rookies in "more minute, more shot" situations than he's in.

Where are you seeing him get 20-30 minutes? Barring an injury I don't really see him getting that opportunity unless he plays lights out.

He may have talent to be a top 5 ROY or in a different situation could be but I think he is more likely to just be a solid energy role player or at least thats what i'm hoping for.

Even if he is good enough to earn 20-30 minutes, which I believe he will be, Doc will spread the minutes around to keep the veterans (Bass and Green) happy and sharp.

But Sullinger might be starting next to KG, and could emerge as the C's top non-KG center.

Yeah, I can see Sullinger making 1st, 2nd, or 3rd All Rookie Team.

Well Doc and Danny threw that out there as an idea. We have no idea if he can actually play that position in the NBA. He is not a good defender and has trouble finishing over big guys so it might not be a good fit.

Plus you really see him getting that playing time early on? I could see him earning some minutes later on in the season but if we are talking strictly the voting of ROY I don't see how from start to finish of the season he will get enough minutes.

KG is going to be playing 30, Wilcox will play 18  and if one is in foul trouble I'm sure they will put collins in most cases.

At PF you got Bass at least at 30-32min J Green at what 10 at least? Then maybe Sully gets the remainder? Again depending on foul trouble

I actually can see Sully getting 25ish minutes a game. He's not like most rookies who have been glued to the bench in the past. The kid is a top talent.

Whoever thinks sully is getting 25-30 min could you just let us know who isn't going to be playing? Do you think bass and Sully will split time at the PF and thats it? Do you think from the beginning to the end of the season he will get consistent playing time?

It's not even like he dominated in summer league against terrible competition. Expectations are apparently ridiculously high already for this guy. I'm hoping he can have a little bit bigger impact than Baby did his rookie year and id be thrilled with that.

I agree. The lack of playing time will take him out of the conversation. It doesn't mean that he's not going to be productive. But not enough PT will mean non ROY numbers.

 Jared Sullinger, Brandon Bass, Jeff Green, Kevin Garnett, Chris Wilcox, Fab Melo, and Jason Collins are our bigs right now. These are my estimates to individual minutes (excluding Sully) :

KG - 30-31 minutes
Jeff Green - 5-10 minutes
Chris Wilcox - 5-10 minutes
Fab Melo - 5 minutes
Jason Collins - 0-5 minutes
Brandon Bass - 20-25 minutes

There are 96 minutes needed to be played for the posts.

Theoretically, the team would have around 65-86 minutes. At worst, Sully would get around 10 minutes. At best, he'd have 31.


I think it would be very possible for Sully to see a lot of playing time, given he impresses well and gets off to a good start. Then again, his minutes could easily reduce if he is outplayed by Wilcox, Bass, etc. Unless we sign another big, it's very possible Sully could see the court a lot, while keeping everybody happy.
