Can the Bulls really expect to be contenders with him possibly coming back that late? Might be in his best interest to just sit out the entire season.

If he's healthy he needs to get back on the court.

As for the Bulls, no they should be looking to next year. Too hard to contend with Rose trying to find his game again.

Next year is a write-off for Chicago.

Not good enough to contend. Not bad enough to win a high lottery pick.

Well, for once Celtics-Bulls tickets at UC might not cost me an arm & a leg.

Seriously though, that's a major bummer for the Bulls and their fanbase.

They will still be one of the better teams in the East.  The lottery won't be close.  Their defense and rebounding will carry them.

You're totally right about them not contending though.  No chance.

Losing all that quality from the bench (Asik, Korver, Brewer, CJ Watson) could drag them back to around .500

I could see them finishing either with a low playoff seed or a late lotto pick.

This is a good opportunity for the C's to at least get the 2 seed.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
With no Rose and the loss of their entire bench, they could be horrible next year - like Cavs horrible when Lebron left.

If he does come back and they sneak in as a 7th or 8th seed, then they could be a real match-up problem for the Heat, Celtics, etc.

Hopefully it's not '97 all over again where the Spurs tanked and then changed their whole franchise forever by getting Duncan. That wouldn't be quite fair either.

Yeah -- hope they are 8th!

Has anyone wondered why Chicago isn't in the DH mix?  They could put together a great package and keep Rose/Howard moving forward.

For starters, they could send Deng, Noah, Gibson and 2013 #1 (which could be lottery).    Orlando gets a pulse, and Chicago gets a PG/Center tandum for 10 years that could be dominant with right pieces built around it.

Agree with that sentiment...

Don't underestimate Thibodeau as a coach.  This wasn't a mega-talented team with Rose.  They're playoff bound with or without Rose.

Hope he learns how make the rest of his game better .   He will most likey lose that tiny edge in athletic abilitiy that sets him apart from 99.% of the rest of the guards.  He relies on his quick change or direction and height and first step.   He will lose some of this no doubt, how much ...but he will.   His was a bad injury.   CP3 's game changed and he hardly missed a beat. but his is a different kind of game, more like Nash or Rondo.

He'll have to become better being a court general, and have to develope a new set of tricks to add to his game.

I can't see Deng, Noah and crew being enought to get past the first round , if that.  Too many personel changes .

If I were the bulls id be more worried about the fact that I just spent 100 million bucks on a kid that relies on speed and jumping ability who has just completely ruined his knee. Take all the season to get him right if you need and be as sure as you can be that history doesn't repeat itself.

He will still be a shadow of his former self athletically.
