I have nothing against Scal. I just don't think I can go through another year of him

From what Roy (I think) was saying earlier, all three guys would have the same impact on the cap.  The rookies would have a cap charge of $854k (more than their salary).  Quis' salary would likely be something like Collins' ($1.35M), but the C's would only have to pay $854k (the league pays the rest) and the $854K is the cap charge.

So, in terms of the potential for future roster flexibility, Joseph, Christmas, and Quis would all have the same effect on the cap.

For me, I'd love to see Quis come to camp on a non-guaranteed contract and battle with the other guys for a spot on the team, but I don't think he'd do that.

Joseph and Xmas might be able to contribute this year, but that's a gamble.  Even if those 2 become legit NBA players faster than expected, they won't have the poise that Quis has- if a rookie gets thrown out there in the ECF when he hasn't been played consistently all year, will he have what it takes?  Maybe.  But I'll take the proven player every time.

It's not what he made last year, it's what's available this year.

You're right, of course.  Unfortunately, there hasn't been a steep drop-off in the demand for a quality back-up 2/3 since last year.  If Courtney Lee gets 5 m in the current market, then I think Delfino can get a lot more than the vet min.  I could be wrong- I'd be happy to be wrong, actually.  Delfino would be great, but I'm not optimistic.

And I would take Pietrus over Quis as well, but only if we could also sign Dooling (because we need some depth at PG) and keep Joseph.  I'm high on Joseph (not for this year, but for the future) so I don't want to let him walk before seeing what he can do.  The reason I like Quis is not because he's better than Peaches but because he makes Dooling expendable (which allows us to keep Joseph and have the BAE available).

If we could sign Dooling + Peaches + keep Joseph + keep the BAE than we don't need Marquis. I'm not sure if that's possible, though- which is why I made this thread. Quisy is a great plan B if the numbers don't jive (or if Peaches finds a better offer/goes to Europe).

See, I wouldn't want to count on Quis as the backup (even third-string) PG.  I get where you're coming from, but I also believe pretty strongly that Dooling *will* return.  He played just well enough last year to justify coming back, but not so well to justify earning any more than the vet min, so all things being equal, I think he returns.

Have I heard Dooling mentioned as a guy who's looking to get into coaching when he retires?  If so, who better to play for than Doc?

So, I think Dooling returns regardless, and with JET in the mix and AB hopefully ready before too long, I'm not that worried about having a guy who can run the point.  Could always use Pierce at point-forward for a few minutes a game, if absolutely necessary.  Which is why I'm more concerned about getting the best backup 3 we can, versus getting a mediocre guy a the 3 who's also a mediocre 2 and a mediocre 1.

A big part of Quis' value in recent years has been his flexibility to play 3 positions.  While that's always a nice thing, we've got pretty good depth at the 1/2 spots, especially if Dooling returns on the cheap.  I'd be more interested in finding someone who could be a legitimate Paul Pierce/Jeff Green backup at the 3; if one of those two guys went down, right now we're probably looking at Courtney Lee having to play there.  Quis could fill that role, but is he the *best* option to be the third SF?

Quis simply doesn't fit with Doc's system. He can't shoot and is for the most part useless unless he has the ball in his hands. I think Joseph can provide everything Quis or Pavlovcic did.

We've brought him back not once but twice- Doc clearly likes him so you're just plain wrong about that.

And each year he was used less and less. Tell me where exactly I'm wrong? What is his role in Doc's offense when he's not the primary ball handler? Outside of cutting he brings nothing to this team offensively.

And I'll confess, I haven't studied the full listing of remaining free-agent 3s in any detail.  But, Quis was pretty deeply out of the rotation last year.  He had a few good moments in the playoffs, but for most of the season he was terrible.

this.  Quisy was brought back on the assumption he'd play as well as he did prior to his surgery but he was just flat out awful last year.  I'm sure he's liked in the locker room but he didn't produce when he was needed. 

I'd rather have Pietrus or Dooling back if we're taking anyone back.

Pietrus for his non-bird raise (1.6M) in a short contract to up his stock after an injury plagued year. Saves the BAE.

Then, look at the cap after signing Pietrus and ink Dooling for the best contract you can. He's like another coach in the locker room, knows his role, never complains and can help in case of emergency.

Send down Joseph/Melo to D-League, and try to sign Christmas/Smith for the Rock Lobsters, to keep some options. They are too raw to give you meaningful minutes, but they've talent.

When Bradley is back and 100%, maybe january/february, look at your roster and wait for an opportunity to get a player who can be in your rotation. Keeping the BAE is key for this.
