Was never high on Stiems, and in many ways I'd rather not use the BAE on him, so moving on.

I would have been totally disappointed if we had used the BAE on him. Excellent offseason so far by Ainge.

This guy went from not getting drafted (i think) and playing in the D league to having two NBA franchises vying for his services. Good for him. Im happy for the guy. He played well here and was appreciated for his contributions. Let's face it he has a limited skillset but he does well with what he has. I wish him luck in Minnesotta and will be cheering for him unlike ray when he returns. He left in our good graces.

Steamer has one significant NBA skill...blocking shots...but he can do enough in other areas, where he's a serviceable backup center.  I think he was hurt in the playoffs.  He was a liability in their defensive schemes because he couldn't rotate effectively. Some of that may have just been Steamer not being athletic enough, but he did enough of it during the season where I think he was hurt.

The 2nd half of the regular season, I thought he and Bradley - combined with KG of course - were the reasons the Celtics had the success they had.  Steamer was solid off the bench.

Don't see how they adequately replace what he brought to the table before the playoffs - base on what's out there along with they can pay right now.

A. Sherrod Blakely ‏@SherrodbCSN

#CelticsTalk: #Celtics Greg Stiemsma reaches agreement with the #Timberwolves today. Believed to be one year deal worth about $3M.

No, the C's can't match anything above $1.9 million...so GS is gone.

I wish him well, but hope we can replace him with a better player.

He might actually turn out a great fit for Minny.  They need a big defender next to Love and it could be Greg finds himself a starting job.

Some guys here must have missed a lot of games last season, if they don't belive Stiemsma is worth the BAE. He had the best defensive rating on the team.

If the offer is 3M $/one year as A. Sherrod Blakely ‏tweeted, I hope that Stiemsma doesn't sign the offer sheet, but just uses it as leverage for a deal with the Celtics.

  • It's all about the TEAM!
You gotta be happy for the kid and I'm glad he left us in good terms. He's doing what is right for him and no one can not understand why he's doing what he's doing.

However....

Shucks! I really hate seeing the Celtics let go of yet another Center who could of contributed to us. No, he wasn't going to be a Dwight Howard or an Andrew Bynum, he was fitting well with us and giving us solid minutes. Sometimes I feel like we're a "decent" center away from being truly legit. I mean we are now. But with someone decent signed and ready to be the Celtics Center for more than 1 season, I think we become even scarier. I just wish we could land one decent center and keep them long enough to be a constant with us. It seems to be the one constant we have lacked for a long time now.

Anyway, take care Steamboat. I'll be rooting for you on the highlights.
The Celtics aren't quitters. Why should you be? - blind homer

Who cares what he brought before the playoffs? He brought absolutely nothing during a great playoff run, he will not be missed.
