doolings importance on this team last year was the effect he had on the young guys Rondo/Bradley.

both mentioned that dooling took them in as a mentor and I think his good locker-room presence had an effect on them.

When Rondo threw the ball at the ref and was suspended, it was Dooling who went and talked to him.

I would love him back for the locker-room presence

Jamar is a better shooter. He needs work tho before he ever becomes a NBA player.

I have to say that Christmas won me over. When the hype began, I didn't care for it, but after watching him a bit more I really like how he just looks to play tough, he penetrates, has the perimeter shot going, and the "European" side-step thing going too, and gets to the line. I'd give him a shot over Dooling (and I liked Dooling in the playoffs, and he'd be a great locker room guy, he also mentored Lee).

Don't underestimate people who are hungry.

Can we get over the summer (league) romances?  Dionte Christmas's upside is to be the next Gabe, Pruitt, J.R. Bremmer, Milt Palacio, or Allan Ray, all end of the bench players with short NBA careers.  We don't need to keep him around to find out if he can join that esteemed company when we have a proven player in Keyon Dooling. As Roy said, title teams don't carry 4-5 rookies.

i know a lot of people are down on dooling but he's a good fit for this team. 1. doc really likes/thinks highly of him. 2. apparently he was one of the more vocal leaders on the team last year. i think with more younger players on the team this year, you need solid leaders/professionals on the team, especially in the nba. 3. in the playoffs, he made some big shots and showed some serious energy off the bench. i say bring back keyon. i think his bench celebrations and hand motions alone warrant a deal lol.

Dooling. Great option for a 5th guard. He may not be very efficient offensively but he brings defensive tenacity that this team loves to see from players. That, and his voice in the locker room was an inspiration to everyone, including Rajon Rondo, one of the most stubborn players in the NBA. How many players really get through to Rondo?

The Celtics are going to have injuries just because they always do, and Dooling is a great fallback option when and if the injuries happen.

Championship teams do not have a ton of rookies. Christmas and Smith should not be our fallback options when and if the team gets its injuries.

I am not saying we keep Christmas--but strongly believe he has earned a camp invite and the oppotunity to show he belongs.  The people you list as his upside all have weaknesses or flaws that Christmas has worked past.  Gabe had no heart--Dionte has a lot of heart...big hustler, plays every minute.  J.R. was short and one dimensional..Xmas 6'5" an all around game--defends strong, good long and mid-range shooter, can create his own shot, pushes the ball as well as getting out and running.  He also goes to the hoop and rebounds well for a guard, plus he threw the pass of the day on more than one day.  Milt no offense at all..and Allan Ray was too small and could not defend.  I think from seeing Christmas and hearing Danny & Doc he has a shot to stick and earn minutes.

Remember Danny compared Smith to Eddie House..does some things better than Dooling..but not a pg and a weak defender.

As long as Dooling is willing to not play some games and just be a great locker room guy who mentors younger players, acting like a coach we should absolutely sign him instead of Jamar Smith.
