Hes not coming to Boston. Atlanta had him on the block last year and the Celtics declined and so did every other team in the NBA.I wonder if its because hes not worth the money he is paid and is not a contract teams are willing to take on with the new CBA. People seem to overrate him due to his flashy play. Wow look at that dunk! he blocked that shot into the 6th row! His decision making in games is bad and his jump shot is terrible. Comparing him to Amare Stoudemire is preposterous as well.

Dude...he's better then Amare.  Not as a scorer, but as an overall player?  Absolutely.

Josh Smith is very much a Rajon Rondo of big men - he's not a first option scorer, but he can score when he's needed to.  He does so many things to impact a game though that he dominates regardless. He rebounds, he blocks shots, he gets steals, he runs the break, he can defend pretty much every position on the floor, he can score inside and out, he can get to the free throw line, and he's one of the better passing big men in the NBA.

Plus he's historically healthy guy and doesn't miss a lot of games with injury.

That's exactly what Boston needs.  We need rebounds, we need inside scoring, we need someone who can get to the line, we need someone who can defend the pick and roll or defend the post, we need a guy who can block and/or affect shots, we need a guy who can run the floor...and we need guys who are young yet still experienced.

The only real concern with Josh is his at times questionable shot selection, but he's hardly the only guy with that problem.  Rondo, Pierce, Lebron, Wade, Kobe...those guys all take some terrible shots sometimes.

If we got Josh Smith and gave up minimum to get him, it would immediately catapult is above Miami and up there with LA among favorites to win the title.

I agree with almost all of this.

And again, I think the trade I proposed a month ago on the first page of this thread is a realistic and fair trade for both teams

Smith

for

Bass, Sullinger, and Bradley or 2013 1st and 2nd (wolves)
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Serious question, why would the Hawks do it if Bradley wasn't involved (you say Bradley or picks)? They'd basically be trading a good PF for two worse ones.

I really don't wanna trade bradley man. Dude is already one of the best defenders in the league at such a young age. Plus we could really use him in the playoffs to lock down d wade. I don't mind trading bass and sullinger but find a way to keep bradley.

Me too. I also really don't want to trade Lee or Terry, since they're both so high on Boston. Or Rondo, or Pierce, or KG... it's kind of a problem, at least for me.

I really would only be okay trading Bass and Melo, but we won't get much for them.

Then again, that's why Danny is the GM, and not us. He can make the tough decisions, like trading Bradley for someone who will make our team better.

If we could do it for maybe Bass, Green and a pick I might do it. But I love our guards. I really don't want to move them. I love the versatility, athleticism and shooting in that foursome and going forward I believe that is going to be a major strength on this team.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

Maybe they aren't in love with Bradley and would rather have a 1st and 2nd this summer instead.  Just because the people on this blog love Bradley and think he is going to be the real deal doesn't mean Atlanta does.  Or maybe with Sullinger already coming over they don't want two injury risks.  Maybe they really like Louis Williams, Devin Harris, Jeff Teague, and Anthony Morrow as their guards and don't want another one.

Plenty of reasons a team might rather have a 1st and 2nd instead of Bradley.

As for the rest of your post, if Atlanta believes Smith is going to leave next summer, then getting Bass and Sullinger (and something else) is a pretty solid return for a guy that is gone.

Alright. Well put, you've convinced me. TP.

Id prefer to see our new team play for a season or atleast a few months before making such a decision. It mostly depends on bradleys offense for me, if its as good as we last saw him then i dont see the need for josh. But if it isnt close to or as good as that id pull the trigger on this in a heartbeat. Also in favor of a trade that didnt touch bradley if thats possible

i think Bradley and Sullinger are going to be really really good so i would try not to trade them.

Lee
Bass
Melo
3 future picks

for Josh Smith seems fair. its better than them getting nothing.

As a S&T next off-season this would probably work.  If we want to make the deal during the upcoming season we will need to add a better prospect than Melo.  I'd give them Sullinger, they'd probably demand Bradley (which I wouldn't do).

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.

Take out Lee, put in Green, and take 1 or 2 of those picks out (or make it so we keep Bass and trade maybe Wilcox or someone else instead).
I like Marcus Smart

Wish we could have had Green for a year  :'( , I'd trade his tail off for Smith in a NY KNICK sec.

Doesn't Josh Smith love Boston? So he should be able to take a paycut if he wants to play here, right?
