Love it ... hoping they can couple Jeremy Lin + Dwight Howard together.
That would mean they'd resign Lee as has been reported me no like

Yeah, my thinking exactly.

Ideal situation: Rockets get Lin, but not Howard, so they bring on a bunch of expendable contracts so they can get Howard in free agency next year, giving us Lee

Middle-of-the-road situation: Rockets don't get anybody (this isn't happening)

Worst-case situation: Rockets get Lin and Howard, are in a win-now position, retain Lee

BREAKING - Report: Knicks done deliberating, WILL NOT match Houston's offer sheet for Jeremy Lin. @JLin7 will be a Rocket.

From a business perspective, and the NBA is above all a business, this is a monstrous mistake.

By the Knicks.  Smart move by Houston, though Lin as a player is nowhere near what he will be paid (i.e. more than Rondo).

Yup, more or less what I was going for there.  Sorry for my post being unclear as to which team I thought it was a mistake for.  Big business mistake, Knicks.

But then again, they've been making big business mistakes for the better part of a decade and it doesn't really matter.

Much has been made already about the New York Knicks decision —reportedly at this point — not to sign Jeremy Lin. But another way to look at the move is that the Knicks’ owner, Madison Square Garden Inc. has already lost more money in market capitalization than the cost of Lin’s contract.

The 64-cent drop in MSG stock equates to a market capitalization loss of about $49 million.

http://blogs.marke****ch.com/thetell/2012/07/16/mondays-msg-market-cap-drop-would-have-paid-for-lin-contract/

Obviously not all due to Lin, but timely and highly comical.  The market is up as a whole today, by the way.

PS. The link is Market Watch if you want to mess with the letters, as the board isn't letting me post those letters together, for obvious reasons.

My only hope is that no one tells New York management to stop running their mouths, because I'm highly enjoying listening to their reasons not to bring him back.

Lin might be great for fan interest, but the Knicks will get more than enough attention regardless.

I think at $8M a year, Lin will be highly overpaid. This contract might look terrible in 18 months. At $3, sure. $8, no way. I think the Knicks were smart to let him go.

They're paying Marcus Camby 4 mil a year for 3 years. Raymond Felton 7.6 this year. I'm not comfortable talking about the fiscal responsibility.

It's odd to me that when SO many players are getting horrifically overpaid, Lin, who has shown flashes of brilliance, and who pays for himself in tickets and jerseys sold, gets a reasonable contract.

I would laugh my behind off if NY is just messing with Hou.

Keep putting out rumors you aren't matching, just to get Hou's hopes up, then at 11:59 match the offer.

Houston would be ticked!

The Knicks actually became (gulp) likable when Lin made his run, and he was great.  They were playing a team oriented style of ball, and they were winning.  When Carmelo came back, it was back to ultra-constipated, nauseating, selfish iso ball.    Also, I really think that more than anyone else, Anthony really resented the phenomenon that Lin became, and I do suspect there would have been locker room problems there on account of that, which may well have factored in to management's decision, too.

I wish him well in Houston.  He could ultimately be a mediocrity, but I doubt it.  He has real skills.  I think he's going to be a big success down there.

Or to put it another way, the Knicks spent as much last season just to use the amnesty provision on Chauncey Billups...

Also, keep in mind that Knicks could have matched, paid Lin $5 million next season and if they regretted it, team still had the new stretch provision available to them to spread out the cap hit from the huge final year of his deal.

Oh well. It's the Knicks. And with Donnie Walsh out, it's back to "business" as usual. More shots for J.R. and Melo.
