Sources: @Lakers pushing hard to get Dwight Howard, team officials meeting with @Orlando_Magic today (via @SpearsNBAYahoo)

If this goes through and the Lakers get Howard (meaning, of course, the Rockets don't get him) does this have any effect on our signing of (or sign-and-trading for) Courtney Lee?

What is this "pushing hard" garbage.

Unless they're givin up Gasol and/or Bynum to a third team to get assets to ship to Orlando the basic trade is pretty much a known quantity.

Very true. I'm just assuming they're working their usual Laker trickery. Do they have any more picks to offer?

On the point of the original question though, I feel like if the Rockets don't get Howard, they're much more likely to "blow up," which could mean they'd want to take on non-guaranteed contracts, which would mean Lee in a Celtic jersey.

No they'd need to bring in a third team to do so.

I'm wondering if they found a dance partner and that's what this new push is about.

If the Lakers acquire Howard for Bynum, and add Jamison to the roster barring injury I can't see them losing.

Based on Coon's tweets on ESPN it sounds like the Magic are trying to induce the Rockets into a three-way deal that they aren't interested in. (ie they want assets from both Lakers/Rockets)

So basically they want Bynum and a ****load of draft picks and rookies.

No I think they're trying to get both the Rockets/Lakers to give them picks and absorb more salary than one would do. then Bynum to Houston and Dwight to LA.

If Houston is really only offering to take back limited salary (ie 1 or 2 bad deals) and limited picks (1 or 2 of their youngsters) as has been rumored over the weekend.

The Lakers gave up a bunch of picks for Nash, and they didn't really have any good ones even before that.

Lakers can try and try over again. But Dwight made it clear he doesn't want to go to the Lakers. The Nets are his desired destination. Possibly Houston provided Jeremy Lin situation pans out.

From Orlando Magic perspective, they don't benefit from a trade to the Lakers. Bynum like Dwight is in the final year of his contract. He made it clear if traded to Orlando; he doesn't intend on staying. So I don't understand why they are wasting their time with the Lakers.

Money. Talks.

He's coming off a fairly significant back injury. The Lakers are going to offer him the most money, on a competitive team, in a huge market. He will resign with them if they acquire his rights and they know that.

that is to say magic trade him to the lakers in the first place. Trade one star center in his final year, for another star center in his final year. I don't see the logic in that.
