According to this report, Minny's expected to offer him one year at $3M.  If they do that, I think Danny only has to offer the two-year BAE at $2M/year and we're all set.

Maybe this will happen on Thursday.

I'm all for Peaches back at the vet minimum.
According to a report from Darren Wolfson of ESPN, the Timberwolves expect to sign restricted free agent center Greg Stiemsma.

Stiemsma, who averaged 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 55 games with the Celtics as a rookie in 2011-12, visited with the Timberwolves at the start of the free-agency period. Wolfson reports that because the Celtics are over the salary cap they would be unable to match an offer made by Minnesota.

The Celtics extended a $1.05 million qualifying offer to Stiemsma on June 29. Reports have suggested the Timberwolves will offer Stiemsma a one-year, $3 million deal.

I know that for a guy like him it's hard to turn away from a 3 million deal, but I think he can do better if he sticks around one more season with us.

But I'l say it again, offering the BAE to him would be a mistake in my opinion, particularly when you see talented guys going around for the minimum. The BAE can be better for us by keeping it.

Time to pack your bags, scrub, err, I mean Stiemsma.

Calling stiemsma a scrub is just plain ignorant.

If stiemsma is a scrub what is Darko?

Have you seen the free agent C list?

Stiemsma is the best option there is if we want as much shot blocking and rim protection as possible for our money.

The Wolves expect to get restricted free agent center Greg Stiemsma. Boston is over the cap, so the Wolves feel like they will be able to structure the contract in a fashion such that Celtics general manager Danny Ainge won't be able to match.

As for getting a wing, the Wolves will sign free agent Courtney Lee if the price is right. But they won't wait long after Thursday morning. If his price is too high, they will move quickly to sign free agent Ronnie Brewer. If Lee waits too long, he won't be a Timberwolf. O.J. Mayo, who chose the Mavericks on Monday night

Wow, that Wolfson piece was very informative, especially re: the Batum situation. Lots of other tidbits there pertaining to a half-dozen different trade scenarios and free agents. TP, Roy.

I'm surprised Steamer's agent couldn't scrounge up a better deal than one year at $3m.  The guy hits the mid-range jumper at one of the  highest percentage in the entire league, and he did it on gimpy feet.

Maybe the foot woes are scaring teams from giving him more than a one year deal.  At a minimum, he should be able to get a 2/$6m deal just by arguing that he'll sign a 2/$4m year deal from the Cs.

Are we sure it is just 1 year?  That seems small to me too.  Although I can't blame teams for being skeptical.  He clearly still had some holes in his game, and benefited from playing with the C's...but more importantly he has bad feet, and that stuff can linger on big men.

Not sure Peaches would take the vet min. If he would take the BAE I'd let Steamer walk.

Virtually nothing "new" in this piece:

A team could come out of nowhere, and the Wolves could go after someone like Jordan Hill instead, but smart money says Stiemsma takes over the Darko role in Minny. At a better price.
