If this is true in any shape or form, I'd be even more disappointed in Ray. But I want to move on from him, but hard to do with every 5 threads that keep popping up.

Maybe he really just likes golfing and sandy beaches. There's really just no logical explanation as to why he would choose Mia over Boston. Is Rondo really that bad?

I think the whole Rondo feud is completely overblown.  There was a report that came out months ago (before the last playoffs started) that said Ray was really irked by being dealt, only to have it nixed when Mayo wouldn't come.  It said internally his demeanor changed noticeably, he was not happy playing for the team, and it was likely he would leave.  And we all know how it played out of course.

Is Danny a traitor to Ray for trading him to MEM (a place I'm sure Ray would rather retire than go to)?

Didn't see this yet...has it been posted?

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sports-buzz/2012/07/sunday-buzz-column-dolphins-chatter-with-training-camp-less-than-two-weeks-away-though-some-of-the-young-veterans-hav.html

Heat fans should appreciate Ray Allen next season, because there's no assurance he will be here beyond that. Two sources with direct knowledge tell us that Allen’s two-year deal with the Heat includes a $3.2 million player option for 2013-14. So if Allen wants to become a free agent again next July, he can. So can Rashard Lewis, due $1.4 million in 2013-14.

This just shows that Ray is "protecting" himself. If this Heat experiment isn't successful, then he has the choice to leave and join another contender. It would seem that he really just chose Miami because he feels it's the best place for him to win another ring. If the team implodes next year, then he can always leave. Didn't Ray say something like he was hoping the C's would offer him the same deal as KG length-wise (3 years) and that he chose Miami because they gave him that? I guess that isn't true after all.

Isn't it obvious? Ray left because he was insulted/offended/hurt by the trade rumors. I mean, that's pretty much exactly what the guy has said himself. He left because he didn't feel wanted.

The only other explanation, which I'm sure played a factor, was that he probably didn't want to come off the bench for Bradley (but as a professional, he would never publicly admit this).

Put those two things together and it's pretty clear what his motivations were for leaving.

I'm going to take this a step further. If Ray is lost in the Miami hype machine, dislikes his role or his teammates, is there any doubt his ego would lead him to try to come back fo Boston so he can be a big story once again a year from now? A triumphant return to Boston would have to involve eating a record setting piece of humble pie. Like veterans minimum salary. Not sure he'd do it, but who knows. Who cares about giving up another couple million when you already left three mill a year on the sidelines...

Mayo not wanting to come to Boston?  Ainge nixed the trade when the Paul Pierce trade to New Jersey fell through.  It was contingent on the Jersey trade.

Same amount as Kwame? So he's sorta mediocre?

The guy left because he felt shafted... thats what it all boils down to. PERIOD. He was traded (basically), not shown the same attention as KG during free agency, and was getting demoted next year.... bottom line he was p---ed off.

And I wouldn't blame him if he felt like coming off the bench behind Dwade is easier on his ego then coming off the bench because of Bradley.

but.... I think Bradley is the better player now, tough situation but Ray did what his ego thought it had to do.

Coming off the bench for Wade is much easier on Ray's ego.

Too bad Ray's ego didn't approve of coming off the bench behind a 21-year-old second year guard last season.

This thread title is misleading.  Ray Allen's contract is either a one year or a three year contract.  Allen has the option to get out of it next summer. If he plays well, he can opt out and Miami can give him the full MLE next summer for the next two or more years.

It's a cheesy way to give Allen the full MLE the final two years of his deal.  "Take the mMLE this summer and although we can't tell you this, we'll give you the full MLE the next two years after you opt out."

I'm not saying that anyone associated with the Heat would collude.  Although the top of their roster was built through collusion.

It's an interesting theory, but I think it's likely that the Heat are above the apron next year as well, even if Mike Miller is amnestied.
