Yes, please, yes--offer him the BAE now, so he's not waiting on Minny's possible $3M!

I hope PETA doesn't get a hold of that video.  Greg seems to enjoy abusing kittens.

You may be right.  It's likely for more than the 2 years that the BAE allows and so just too tempting...

big time TP.

yep, bring him back. it's a no-brainer. barring injury-issues, there's no big better for BAE or less. the dude can defend. he's got a little jumper. and he doesn't back down.

He was injured.  He was not practicing.

And the injury made him even slower which made him a liability on defense (because the other team played smaller and faster)

Yep, he wasn't practicing for like the last three months. Dude came on quickly. He's tougher than Semih and Kristic, good help side defender, feel like he can be slightly above average post defender too. Not to mention he comes with great nicknames and he's our big white guy we've come to love and expect. Still think, despite age, he's got some upside too. The Cs system supports it more than any other. Masks deficiencies well too. :)

Resigning Stiemsma is out of our control now. We've made a qualifying offer, but if he wants to go to Minnesota for 3 million a year, I don't think there's anything we can do.

Steamer showed flashes of promise last year but why is everyone so sure that he is ready for a big role on an NBA team?
Here's my take on the Steamer:
He was thrust into an NBA rotation in a wacky strike-shortened season because of injuries and played surprisingly well.  He remained effective far longer than many thought he would, displaying genuine shot-blocking ability on D and good instincts on offense.  He proved to be a reliable back-up big man for awhile, until, however, opposing coaches had time to scout him.  You see, Steamer- while a serviceable post defender- couldn't defend a pick-and-roll to save his life.  Whether the issue was physical or mental is anyone's guess, but Doc was forced to bench Steamer for fear of him getting destroyed and undermining our whole team's defense.  I understand that Steamer was hurt for nearly all of last year which limited his mobility and could have inhibited his pick-and-roll defense, but we CANNOT forget what made Doc bench Steamer last year.  He was a rookie, so maybe this is just part of his development and next year he'll be shutting down the pick-and-roll like KG, who knows.  I just know that using the BAE on Steamer could end up backfiring easily.

Back firing?  The alternative is Darko Milicic who is pretty far removed from being a sure thing.  I think we need to be realistic about which back up big men we have access to for under $2 million.

Would you prefer Ryan Hollins?  Are Fesenko and Haddadi still free agents?  Ian Mahinmi is probably out of our range.

We need the BAE to replace our injured starting SG, if we need another big (I don't know that we NEEED another) we can't use the BAE to do so.
For me it comes down to what's more important- depth option + spot starter at SG or a depth option at C?
The fact that AB is out to start the year really pushes us back into a corner as far as what we need to do with the remaining tax exception(s).

Fab Melo - take notes, young man.

Greg Stiemsma is HOW you BLOCK SHOTS - see how he keeps the ball IN PLAY?

I'm not sure if he comes back, though. Fab may take his place as the resident shot blocker off the bench.

He'll be missed if he leaves...hopefully Fab can get up to speed quickly.
