No, people on here have to get over Ray and focus on the Celtics. He was a free agent, meaning FREE to sign where he felt more wanted and where he felt a better fit was. And it wasn't our Celtics.

the last 2 (if not 3) trading deadlines, he was being shopped around and was nearly traded. how much love was he really feeling from the boston organization every single year? heck a lot of us on the forums had suggested him in so many trade rumors.

cant blame the guy for wanting a change of scenery where he can finish his career on a team that will definitely get him the ball where he wants it.

You have to look at it from Ray's point of view..

He may not get more touches...but he wont have to work as hard to get touches.

Playing with LeBron/Wade essentially makes Ray a spot up shooter and prolongs his career.

The unfortunate thing for us is...

Ray prolongs Wade's career....Now they can rest him even more in the regular season. No one coasts in the regular season like Wade.

I wouldn't have minded Ray getting more touches myself.  It's not necessarily shots, it's just being a regular guard and being allowed to dribble the ball up the court once in awhile without your point guard running at you with his hands up and shouting for the ball.  That's annoying in rec ball, I can't imagine how grating that must have been to a future HOF NBA guard.  He did as he was told though, as did Paul. 

I just don't understand why Ray or Paul can't dribble the ball up the floor once in a while.  If nothing happens after they probe the defense, they can always give the ball to Rondo and run a play.  By giving up the ball so early, they're giving up potential offense like a Ray pull up three or Paul attacking the basket against an unformed defense with built up speed.  If Rondo was a great transition passer, I could understand but his decisionmaker in transition is as sloppy as any point in the league.

having said that - i know that some of the blood from this is on Danny's hands - he may be the worst GM in the league with regard to promoting loyalty. he shops his players around like poker chips, which is bad enough. then he gets on the radio and talks about it.

i can't decide whether Danny is more obsessed with trying to prove he is more clever than Red was (which he is not) or if he has residual bitterness over being the one starter from the '86 team that did get traded. either way, he needs to take some lessons from Red about franchise pride, morale and loyalty.


we are The Celtics. this should still be a special place to play and a different franchise from the rest of the NBA.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that the least of our hall of fame big 3 (least attention, most mentioned as trade bait, etc...) would like to see what he's got left...Staying in Boston was going to equal quick and increasing fade from on-court relevance.  The same thing will happen to Paul eventually but more slowly.  It's never pretty.

Ray is a 3 point shooter.  Miami is the perfect place for him to get down to doing just that, and doing it a lot (he will absolutely get better looks in Miami....and probably more shots too unless he slumps pretty bad down there).

I am happy we have cleared some age out of the SG position.  If you feel the same then why bash?  Why not just see how much sense the move makes from all perspectives?  As far as it being the Heat,  no other contender really reached out seriously.  

I wish Ray could have been happy with a much diminished role here in Boston and switched over to teacher mode and kept building legacy.  But why be shocked that a born competitor will instead try to prolong his relevance on the court?  

My honest opinion is that Ray has made a mistake in not being more accepting of back-up status, reduced role, etc.... I don't feel the need to bash him on top of that....

Exactly right. He's a born competitor. He does want a championship, but he wants to feel like he was a major contributor to it. Miami have given him a great sales pitch and must have promised him a lot of plays focused on him. We get to witness how he reacts and what happens with him down there. He's probably just looking for a fresh start and was a little frustrated with us as well. I really can't blame him. People are claiming he's not a real Celtic, but maybe he feels he wasn't being treated like a real Celtic by management.
Who really knows. All I know is he gave us 5 fantastic years and poured his heart and soul into every second he was out there, even with his gimpy ankle.
Don't hate Ray for being his own man. It's funny how if he leaves for less money because he wants to win so badly he's a traitor scumbag. But if he left for more money on another serious contender he'd get labelled the same. I think it's great to see a player take less money for his own reasons.
Cuts deep but he's allowed to do what he wants after everything he's done for us and I'm not mad at him.
