Ainge speaking publicly on Allen's departure for the first time:
http://espn.go.com/boston/nba/story/_/id/8166155/left-us

Quote
"I don't feel like we lost Ray, I feel like Ray left us to go to Miami," said Ainge. "We appreciate all that Ray's done, and all that him and (Allen's wife) Shannon have done in our community. We tried to get Ray back; he chose to go to Miami."

Quote
"You'd have to ask Ray the decisions why (he signed with Miami)," Ainge said when asked if Allen's diminished role played a factor in his departure. "I talked with Ray a lot over the last five years, I'm a fan of Ray and, like I said, I'm grateful for what he's done. He'll always be part of that 2008 championship and the success we've had since then as well. But, I have a feeling that it wasn't one thing. I think it was an accumulation of lots of things, including the lure of Miami. I'll just leave it at that."

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
I do not believe Allen left us to go to Miami.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

  • Ashy To Classy, baby.
I feel like Danny Ainge only wanted to resign Ray to keep the fans happy, and since our team was still going to be "old" for a few years anyway.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

Couldn't of said it better Danny.

Maybe Ray's OCD was part of the problem. The O stands for obsessive, as in, not getting over stuff.

Either way he had an inflated opinion of himself, and impeded Rondo's development as a scorer.

Ha!  :)

I appreciate your support but I'm truly not sad about Ray leaving.  I actually wish him the best and I believe it's for the Celtics benefit since he's kind of a one dimensional player at this point.  Just thought it was worth posting Ainge's comments on Ray's departure since he hadn't spoken publicly on it yet.

That part is funny to me... I know DA means championship bandwagon, but I know for sure what Shaq was doing in Mia!! They "lure" you in down there! I hope I get some news about Ray... thing is, my family isn't into that "scene" anymore so it's harder to get the scoop. LOL
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

You know, Danny didn't try to trade Ray Allen last year, he did trade him.  But only on the condition he was blowing the whole team up including sending lifelong Celtic Pierce to New Jersey.

He had a trade for OJ Mayo and a draft pick for Allen but didn't go through with it.  If he was so ready to get rid of Allen he has a funny way of showing it.

I agree.  I think it's more that Ray went to Miami in order to leave us (or the C's, that is).

re: allen being traded this year...for the haul we were asking (and apparently almost got), any gm who didn't trade ray for that would be a fool. its not like danny was trying to dump ray for scraps. he was trying to get a home run in return. i get ray not liking the uncertainty, but again, its not like danny was trying to dump him at all. he was trying to get $1.20 on the dollar. also...its every GMs job to try to improve their teams. trading ray for mayo, cunningham, and a #1 pick was a win in the short and long-term by a lot.

Danny "shopped" Ra like he would do anyone if he thought it would benefit the team.  It's not like Danny said well, here someone take him or didnt offer him what he wanted to stay.  ray could have stayed in Boston, with a limited role, but He CHOSE to leave Miami.  It doesnt mean its good or bad.  The operative word is chose.  In this context it looks bad, and kudos for Danny's play on words.  But the fact is, it came down to Ray's choice and no one elses.
