Not because he isn't a very good player, he is, but because it will take some resources to get him and there are other options that may make more sense.  For example, I would like to see Pietrus re-signed as a better defensive option who can still hit the 3. I also want to see how Kris Joseph pans out because he has looked impressive in SL play.  Finally, if the MLE can be freed up by S&T to get JET, I would rather use it to get a big man (somewhat unrelated thought there).

In any case, I just have feeling Ainge is not going to great lengths to get Lee. I suspect he likes a lot of the young guys and he may have an eye towards the future.

If all the pieces fall into place, this team can win #18 without Lee and still have a solid young core for the future:
Rondo, Green, Bradley, Sullinger, Joseph (maybe Melo too, not sure yet)

All understood. Unfortunately, Pietrus was struggling covering a hobbled Wade in the Miami series, and his role will be heavily reduced with Green on the team. And anyone can look good in the summer league. I'd rather take a sure thing like Courtney lee than a "maybe he could be good" player like Kris Joseph. Joe Forte and Kedrick brown looked really good in the summer leagues. They didn't exactly turn out great.

Remember, Lee was the main reason why Ray was a non-factor against the Magic in 2009. Ray is now with the enemy. I want someone who's proven he can shut down the enemy.

I want him.  He's exactly the type of player all winning teams need.  He's a smaller version of James Posey.  He's not someone you build around, but the Celtics have $45 million committed to four players (Pierce, Rondo, KG, Green).  Those are the guys you build around.  Lee is the kind of player who finishes a winning team.

I knew someone would bring up Kedrick Brown and Joe Forte. Call me crazy, but I really think Joseph is not one of those guys. He is not just using his athleticism like Brown. You can see how he is using his brain, something Brown apparently never had.  He also idolized Paul Pierce and you ca see bits of PP in his game.  No he is NOT Pierce, but I just get the feeling he will be a very good player in this league.

IIRC, Pietrus was playing with an injury in the playoffs.  I don't see him guarding the same guys as Green either.

All that said, it is a fair thought to take the "bird in hand" in Lee.

Lee only provides more depth & makes the team that much better. Not sure why anyone wouldn't want him

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
If we ended up keeping the pick, signing Joseph and Christmas, and rounding out with vet players, thatd be cool.

But Lee would be a lot cooler. It's be nice to have a legitimate starting 2 guard.

For example, I would like to see Pietrus re-signed as a better defensive option who can still hit the 3.

Courtney Lee is, however, a significantly better three-point shooter (at least 40% in three out of four seasons, something MP3 has never done).

Lee's value = AB insurance, possible third guard with AB and Rondo in future years (assuming JET decline.)

Let's say DA pull a S&T for JET with Dallas.

If the choice is sign Steis for $2.5m and bring back Posey. With BAE and 50% of MLE to use during the season or bring in Lee, and sign a vet minimum C.... I'd call it a push.

If we can do:

Get LEE (MLE), Steis (BAE) I'll also be pretty happy. Right now we need a part time C behind KG. We have KG, a project in Melo and PFs for bigs. Trouble against a team with size.

And I like Joseph too. But like Melo, let's wait and see how good he is. Both Melo and Joseph I thought were beneficiary picks for the post-Pierce & Kg era. Sullinger I think is ready to be a contributor to the game right away.

Anyway, Lee is a real good defensive player who can help mask Terry's defensive inefficiencies in the 2nd unit. If he doesn't sign, I'll be crushed.
