Maybe slightly better offensive game than DeShawn Stevenson, but maybe not quite the defender Stevenson is either?
Huh, I'd probably say it the other way around.  I've never had any complaints about his defense however he has nothing that stands out on offense, or rather he needs solid minutes to get in a rythym like a Tony Allen type of player.

Well, DeShawn cracked double-digits in scoring three times last season. Dahntay did that in one week.

Haven't seen enough of either to comment on their defense, though.

Wasn't Dahntay known as the "defensive specalist" on that Denver team that went to the conf. finals a few years back?

I remember him from his Duke days as a scorer, but it never seemed to translate really well to the NBA.

Still, he would be a nice back-up plan if we are unable to land Courtney Lee.

He can run the floor, defend, isn't afraid of LeBron, finish at the rim, and hit the three at 40% last year.  The problem with Jones is the shots between the rim and the three point line.  He shot a hideous 34-130 from 3-22 feet.   That's 26%.  How can an NBA player be that bad at shooting mid-range?

Sounds good -- a cheaper backup SG option if Lee/Mayo don't work out.
Celtics fan for life.

Some people are curious as to why we are looking at SGs instead of Centers.  There are very obvious reasons for this.  One major reason is that Centers are freaking expensive as hell and we have NO $ to throw around except the BAE (and MLE if we get lucky and swing a sign-and-trade). No Centers who can contribute will be available to us b/c they are WAY too valuable.

Oh and our current depth chart looks like THIS:
PG: RR- Jet- AB?
SG: AB- Jet- ??
SF: PP- JG- JJJ?
PF: BB- KG- Sully- JG- JJJ?
C: KG- Wilcox- Sully- Melo?

Lots of bigs there... not many guards. ESPECIALLY with AB out for the start of the season.

For the record, I would LOVE to sign Dahntay Jones (if our sign/trade plans don't materialize and he's amnestied).  Size, athleticism, defense, jump shooting- he's pretty solid across the board.  I'd be surprised if he finds his way onto the Cs though- I think Dallas will hold onto him.

I'd call Jones a safe bet to pick up cheap.  Good defense, plays within himself, not likely to be an impact guy.  Not quite quick enough to be great, I suspect.

Frankly, I'd rather sign Quisy again.  I like that guy.

I'll pass on Dahntay Jones. I mean he's okay, but there are better options I guess.

Why not Dionte Christmas?

The dude looks good in the SL, and might able to contribute in this lineup. Defense of that kid, man.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

I have a different take after looking at that depth chart.  I see that the Celtics having 3 quality good to great players at the guard positions.  At the 4 and 5 I see KG and Bass as definitely proven bigs, but Sully, Melo and even Wilcox after his surgery are still somewhat question marks.

I would think if we are looking for a 2 that badly we could always get Pietrus to play down a position.  He is a better shooter and defender than Jones and knows the rotations.  He would be a great starter at the 2 till AB comes back.

Rather have Christmas. Stevenson had a horrible year and Jones was atrocious in the playoffs.

Rather have Brendan Haywood than either of these guys and that is not saying much. There is a reason Dallas is having a fire sale. These guys are not good enough.
