I take this news as "Back-up option" in case Courtney Lee doesn't come. There is still the chance Jones doesn't get waived.

He was cut during the C's training camp during whichever year Esteban Batista was also one of the last cuts.

And I'm with jojowhite about the trade. It was Dahntay and Troy Bell for Marcus and Perk? Not sure about the complete details.

Yep. Drafted #20 overall by the Celtics in 2003, then traded with Troy Bell to Memphis for Banks and Perk.

Maybe slightly better offensive game than DeShawn Stevenson, but maybe not quite the defender Stevenson is either?

We do. The problem is, we'll likely start the season with 3 rotation-capable guards, so adding another SG is absolutely mandatory. Big men, we have 4 already, and Jeff Green who can play there in a pinch. And that's before considering Johnson or Melo. So yeah.

Rather have DJones for defense and dunks than Pavlovic back

A true SG with size is still the priority bcuz we still end up playing small ball and have scoring droughts.
Plus Chris Wilcox is back
We need a Ray replacement:
Insert Lee or Mayo top priority

hollins

(and while i admit that while willaims and hollins may not qualify as good nba players, they do seem to be both big and men.   )

Huh, I'd probably say it the other way around.  I've never had any complaints about his defense however he has nothing that stands out on offense, or rather he needs solid minutes to get in a rythym like a Tony Allen type of player.
