ESPN Insider:

"Key additions: Kevin Garnett (re-sign), Jason Terry (FA), Jeff Green (re-sign), Brandon Bass (re-sign), Jared Sullinger (draft), Fab Melo (draft); Kris Joseph (draft)

Key subtractions: Ray Allen

I guess it's time to stop writing about the Celtics' closing window. Garnett forced that window open with a stellar playoff performance, and team president Danny Ainge had very little choice but to bring the gang back to try it again.

Re-signing KG was a no-brainer. His game has changed, but he's still one of the most dominant bigs in the league. Replacing Allen with Terry is probably an upgrade as well. Terry doesn't have Allen's shooting touch, but he's a much more versatile offensive player. If Green is healthy, he's a major upgrade. The team got Bass back on a reasonable deal, and the Celtics landed a draft pick in Sullinger who can be a force in the post right away as long as his back holds up.

Here's what's impressive about Ainge's moves the past few years. He has maintained his veteran core while still putting in place a group of young players -- Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Green, Sullinger and Melo -- that could become the core of the future.

Very few teams have the opportunity and ability to have their cake and eat it, too. Ainge has found a way.

GRADE: A "

Kind of cool. Yahoo for us

Could get better too.

I'm excited because we could still do a bit more.  I'm very happy with how deep this team is.

I really hope Danny is able to do the S&T for Terry.  Really would give him the flexibility to go get a quality backup PG and/or bring back Stiemsma.  Then it would truly be a killer off-season.

Absolutely!

I think the C's have a good chance to do it, too. Wilcox is in. MP for Min or BAE, good chance to happen. Lee with a S&T (or MLE if Terry comes from an S&T), probably about 60/40 against, but still that's pretty good odds for pulling off all three.

Exactly!
This could even get better with a young SG like Lee and a Vet big like Wilcox!!!
But to me Danny would have EXCELLED If he can somehow bring back STIESMA!!!
That would be a A+++

I do not think we will go after a PG.  With Terry's ability to play the point and the C's using moore primarily as a point in the summer league.  That will be our PG depth.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I love what Danny is doing with the roster so far.

I would hope we would.  Moore's no PG, and I'm not sure Terry's up to that either.  Would prefer having a real backup PG who can run a team instead of a tweener.

Would have totally killed it with PJ3 instead of Melo.  Wow, what a haul that would have been.

Don't write off Fab Melo too soon.  He has some skills, and can really move well for a  big man...up and down the court and laterally.  Doc and KG can really help him.  Do we have a big man coach?  How about Chief?

Yeah, I'm not writing him off.  Just think that PJ3 has star potential.  All in all, I'm happy with Danny's offseason.  Would be ideal if he can pull off the S&T for Terry and still have the MLE to use.  Fun stuff.
