The obligatory "Kyrie Irving is really really good" post.
Kyrie Irving is really really good. His shooting percentages for a 19 year old point guard were outrageous. Especially considering he was "the man" in Cleveland and immediately the main offensive option. Considering he was learning the hardest position in the NBA... what he accomplished (11 games removed from High school) was pretty much unheard of. 18.5 point, 5.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.1 steals in only 30.5 minutes per game. Shooting percentages of 47%/40%/87%... that's INSANE. Find me someone who shot that well at age 19. Seriously... I'll wait here while you look. I've said it before.. I would trade Rondo for him straight-up this second without blinking (especially considering he's still on his rookie contract)... and if he continues to improve (which is to be expected since he's only 20 year sold) he could end up a superstar.
As for Kobe. I agree with the posters above... it's odd how likable he's become recently. Brilliant marketing team, I guess. You know the guy is gaining love when Celtic fans openly root for the Lakers over the Heat. Personally I find that blasphemous and disgusting. What kind of sicko roots for the Lakers under ANY circumstances... petty jealous LeBron grudge aside... you have to be nuts to call yourself a Celtic fan and half-root for the Lakers.
That said, I agree... it's becoming harder to hate Kobe. Jordan converted a lot of people as he got older too. I imagine as folks come to terms with LeBron's gifts and he gets older... people will start to embrace the King as well. It's inevitable. Eventually you just have to respect the talent and appreciate the player.
I'd love to see these two actually play 1 on 1... perhaps during all-star weekend for charity? It would be a blast to watch. Kobe probably wins with his size, but ya never know with 1-on-1. I'd have a ton of respect for Kobe if he actually was willing to put himself out there and do it.
I agree that Irving is an incredible young talent, but there's no way I trade Rondo for him. The difference, in my opinion, is that Rondo makes everyone around him better. I can't say for sure whether Irving does that. I didn't watch many Cavs games last year, so if he actually does, please let me know.
That said, Irving will be one of the future premier PGs in the league, let alone conference.
In say, 5 years, the Eastern Conference will potentially have 5 elite PGs: Rose, Rondo, Irving, Holiday, and Wall
Pair that with Teague, Lin, Jennings, Brandon Knight, Kemba Walker, and an older Deron Williams, and you have a pretty strong conference at the PG position.
