...it would be really tough for the '92 team to run with these guys.

Why do people keep saying this?  It's nonsense.

Magic / Jordan / Pippen / Malone / Robinson

That lineup is every bit as fast and athletic as anything the 2012 squad can throw out there.

Plus, the 2012 team wouldn't get as many opportunities to run, because the Dream Team would be taking high percentage shots inside, and would be doing a good job on the offensive boards.
Yeah Jordan probably has to guard CP3/Deron (or Pippen could) but they'd be fine.

Westbrook Iguodala & Lebron alone are faster than the whole '92 team. Tyson and Blake are faster than all the '92 bigs.

I don't think you realize how much faster today's game is, sir Roy.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
If the refs of today officiated, then 2012 would win.

You are going to free MJ and think he is going to lose?

Forget that. 2012 bigs would have to matchup against DT bigs WITHOUT hand checking. Good luck stopping people in the post.

Man - are you SURE that Tyson is faster than DAVID?

David Robinson will stop most of Kobe's team cold - even LeBron.

And Blake is out of the Olympics.

Today's game isn't faster at all.  The game today is played at probably the slowest pace in NBA history.

I think you fail to appreciate how fast and athletic the best players of the 80s and 90s were.  David Robinson handled Shaq; he would destroy Tyson Chandler.

Plus, myteamisbetterthanyours - yes - Iggy and Westbrook are fast - perhaps as fast and athletic as that 92 team.

But would you REALLY trust Westbrook as a PG - vs the 92 team?

And would you REALLY trust Iggy to provide much offense? His strength is as a slasher, and he would just not get to the rim much vs David or Patrick. He probably have his path impeded by Charles or Sottie before he'd even sniff the paint.

But yeah - I think the 92 team would LOVE Russell Westbrook as the PG...the guy could barely hold MARIO CHALMERS in the Finals.....

I'd start the following team vs Kobe's:

C - Patrick
PF - David
SF - Larry or Scottie
SG - Michael
PG - Magic

And Yes - David Robinson could easily play PF in this format. He'd easily negate LeBron and keep up with him. The guy was as gifted athletically as they come.

David Robinson was in the same class as young KG.

David Robinson cannot keep up with Lebron James.. Nobody on that team can.  Pippen and Mullin would do the best job on him.  But Lebron would be too much for them..

1992 isn't the game you see in black and white with Cousy and Oscar. There's no way Westbrook is faster than KJ, who didn't even make the team. I'd take KJ as a player over Westbrook any day as well.

How about I end this debate.

Yes, the 2012 is faster than 92. But it doesn't matter.

They won't be able to use that speed on fast breaks, because DT takes high percentage shots down low. Those fast bigs can be faster all they want, but they won't be able to get easy shots in the paint, not without a few bumps and bruises and trust me, after a couple of those, they'll be shooting jumpers. Same goes for dribble penetrations.

They are faster, but they would seldomly utilize that speed advantage against the DT.

No, you're probably right about that actually..  Speed means nothing if you're not getting stops to trigger the fastbreak.  Especially with a team with so many low post threats.. So I guess I lose...

What if this years team had Howard and Bynum on it.. then what?

I can certainly understand those who favor Lebron in this format. The man is certainly once in a lifetime talent-wise and size-wise.

But he's never faced anyone like Scottie, David or Charles.

The closest that LeBron has had to face over the last few yrs to his size, talent and ability is perhaps Gerald Wallace - from 2-3 yrs ago.

09-10 Gerald Wallace was a beast.

LEBron could probably over-power Scottie, but not Charles. I think pound-for-pound and inch-for-inch, Charles Barkley is the best PF to ever play the game.

Charles had the overall size, speed and strength to keep up with LeBron, easily.

I still think David could handle LeBron. He'd certainly handle KLove. Look - if 36 y/o KEVIN GARNETT could handle KLove just last season (see BOS's game in MINNY), then KLove would be out-classed vs 92 Bigs.
