- gives us someone to run with Rondo
- I think he can cover most sg's, while PP takes the SF
- Kris Joseph should get mins early in the season to develop and be ready for the playoffs. The kid has game and can definitely contribute from day 1 IMO

I think Green starting makes the most sense. Keeps Terry as the 6th man and helps Joseph develop by getting some mins as the backup SF.

At this point I like that idea, but we should wait to see what other wing(s) we sign. If C Lee is indeed signed, he'll give us athleticism for our starting line.

My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

I think any scenario where Pierce or Green is guarding the other team's SG is destined to fail.

What if Ray started at the 2 and guarded no one?

So, Pierce can man-up Lebron, arguably the fastest player in the league and the best player on the planet, but he can't defend Rip Hamilton?

He probably could but I think there is actually a heck of a lot more running around involving guarding Rip than there is guarding Lebron.  I think if Pierce tried to guard Rip an entire game he would get tired and his offense would suffer.

But on the other hand I think pierce might be able to overpower a player like Rip on the offensive end which might force Rip out of the game.

His handle and shot are not really SG material.   I think PP would be better suited and Green at the three hole.   He still can run.   PP might have trouble with covering SG's though.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I would actually be fine with Green at the two for part of the game, but Pierce was the quintessential sg/sf combo for years up until we acquired Ray Allen. I get that he may have slowed down a little bit, but it's similar to telling KG that he can't play pf anymore and that he has to play center.

The Rip Hamilton example that was brought up is a little extreme. He has always been one of the quickest / non-stop players on offense. Most sgs don't run around trying to get open on screens like Ray and him.

Jeff Green is a 3 and I think having him as PP's back-up and also playing a few minutes at the 4 is the best way to go.  If we get Lee, he should start, in fact whoever we get that is an SG should start. Having Green and Jet on the second unit gives us great bench scoring which we lacked last year...

Pierce can no longer guard 2 guards. Start Terry and give Green his 30 minutes a game off the bench.

Yeah i wanna keep both green and terry on the bench at all times *Meaning don't put them on the starting lineup*. I'm counting on those two more than anyone else to solve our bench scoring problems.

I have no problem with a Pierce/Green wing combo for chunks of the game, I don't think it should be our starting line up because it makes it harder to rest Pierce with a normal substitution pattern for him.

Yeah the only way you can start Pierce and Green is if Pierce is the SF and Green is the PF.  Neither one of them can play the SG spot.

I would think the rotation will be something like this to start the season

PG - Rondo 40, Dooling 8
SG - Terry 30, Pietrus 12, Dooling 6
SF - Pierce 30, Green 18
PF - Bass 30, Green 10, Sullinger 8
C - Garnett 30, Sullinger 8, Melo/Williams 10

Moore, Joseph, and Johnson are the deep bench.

When Bradley comes back he essentially takes all of Dooling's minutes in both spots and 16 from Terry & Pietrus
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

If we bring back Peaches.. I think he's going to start until Bradley gets back.. I think they want Terry to be as comfortable as possible coming off the bench and working with the second unit.
