Nicolas Batum - G/F - Trail Blazers
ESPN's Ric Bucher is reporting that the Trail Blazers and Timberwolves are discussing a deal that would send Portland free-agent forward Nicolas Batum to Minnesota for two future first-round draft picks and a veteran small forward acquired from a third team.
It's possible the third team's player is Kyle Korver from the Bulls, but that's just speculation on earlier rumors. The Blazers have been saying all week that they will match any offer Batum receives, but the addition of draft picks and a replacement player has apparently caught Portland's interest. If the deal can't be completed by Wednesday night, the Wolves are set to officially sign Batum to an offer sheet, which the Blazers would have three days to match.

Two first rounders for Batum? Seems like a little steep of a price, no?

Two first rounders on top of that large contract offer ... expensive signing.

Maybe so, but there is some heat on Minnesota right now.  Especially with Love publicly expressing his dissatisfaction.

Rubio / Ridnour
Roy / Barea
Batum / Budinger
Love / D Williams
Pekovic

That has some definite potential to it.

And they have the Grizzlies first in this upcoming season.

Not a bad starting lineup IF Roy and Rubio are healthy
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

You can survive without Rubio for a while. Ridnour and Barea are both solid point guards.

They need to sign a reliable veteran minimum guy at the 2 for that type of scenario.

Like a Michael Redd, Willie Green, or DeShawn Stevenson.  In that scenario, they'd be able to deal with short-term injuries to either guy.

Long-term injuries are tougher, but you can say that for everyone.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I'm just waiting and hoping that Aldridge demands a trade.

He's the best PF that no one is talking about.
