Thats why  Boston took Melo..... the price of Average centers in the NBA has skyrocketed.

Melo will be worth a huge amount in 3 years.  Maybe sooner once KG works his magic on him.

There's two sides to this, though.  If Melo takes two or three years to develop, we may only have him around for a year or two before he hits free agency and demands big dollars.

The Nets put an ultimatum out to get the Howard deal done. Either the Magic agree on a deal today, or it's off. This is directly related to Lopez possible signing, and the looming threat that Lopez might sign an offer sheet elsewhere, particularly with Portland now that Indiana looks to match on Hibbert.

This.

Nets want Howard deal done asap.  Smart move on their part to not Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. foot around

Its a worthy gamble, as he is low cost (maybe 6 or 7 mil / 4 years) and the C's will have the right to match.

Developing Drummond for 20 million or so over 4 years is way more risky.

Young centers are always a gamble though.  :-\

So if they don't do the trade today, does Howard come out with a new list of teams? Maybe he has a bet with LeBron that he can screw up his leaving Orlando worse than LeBron did with Cleveland.

Reports out that Charlotte and Portland willing to offer max money on a four year contract, because, well, I haven't the least idea.

On so many levels - none of which are related to good basketball - I'd really enjoy Lopez going to Portland

I guess I could appreciate the Bobcats comedy as well; An all 6'1 lineup and then Brooks Lopez would be pretty comical.

And yet he'd be only the 3rd, 4th, or 5th leading rebounder on the team.

Apparently, Portland is in a race to spend its cap space before they have to match Batum's offer from Minnesota. Once they match, they have no space.

Then let it be. If you think having Brook Lopez on your books for 4 years, max money alongside Lamarcus Alridge will get you anywhere you're insane. You don't have to spend money just because you have it.

They've got 21 million dollars committed next year, and an excellent young building block in LMA. Call it a day this off season, add some people on short term money and try again next year.

I know. Blazer GM Neil Olshey even recently said that he won't spend money on players that "won't move the needle." Apparently, he thinks Lopez will?

Even the biggest Lopez fan would have to concede that it's a bad idea. What he's good at is too similar to LMA, and he'll only highlight LMA's negatives more.

I agree here fully, and if the extension is signed they can't trade him until December, so this almost certainly eliminates them from the Dwight derby.

At least out of the sweepstakes this year.  Unless they give Lopez a no trade clause, he could be salary ballast for a S&T for Howard next year.

In fact, it could be already all planned out.  You (Dwight) get yourself traded to Houston this year and then we will give Houston Lopez and a bunch of draft picks and you can come to Brooklyn next year.  We can wait another year.  We will be much improved anyway.

Actually, it can't happen.

Moranis put up a great post today that starting in 2013-2014, according to the new CBA, teams that are $4 million above the tax line can not participate in a sign and trade.

It is now or never for Brooklyn.

Come on Houston, by far my prefered destination for Howard.
