Things can get quite interesting. I think we're still in good shape, even if the prediction of 74 million was off.

What is apparent now, is that had we kept Ray Allen, I'm not sure we could've had full MLE + BAE. Will need to crunch some numbers later.


Edit: My bad, the apron ix 4 million above tax line so we're still at the 74 million estimate for the apron. So disregard my above comments.

The issue, of course, is not the $1 for $1 tax this year, but the tax in future years, which ratches up sharply.

The issue, of course, is not the $1 for $1 tax this year, but the tax in future years, which ratches up sharply.

I rally don't care about that. I only care about exceptions at our disposal. I think next year we won't have full MLE, I think we'll see Ainge try to do his best to remain at a level where we can use it.

Important, we need to use the BAE this year if we estimate we'll be over the apron starting next year.

The National Basketball Association today announced that the Salary Cap for the 2012-13 season will be $58.044 million. The tax level for the 2012-13 season has been set at $70.307 million. Any team whose team salary exceeds that figure will pay a $1 tax for each $1 by which it exceeds $70.307 million.

The Salary Cap and tax level, both of which are unchanged from 2011-12 amounts, go into effect at 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday, July 11, when the league’s “moratorium period” ends and teams can begin signing free agents and making trades.

The minimum team salary, which is set at 85% of the Salary Cap, is $49.337 million for the 2012-13 season.

The current Collective Bargaining Agreement provides for three different mid-level exceptions depending on a team’s salary level. The non-taxpayer mid-level for this season is $5.0 million, the taxpayer mid-level is $3.09 million and the mid-level for a team with room under the Salary Cap is $2.575 million.

Same here, which is why I was a bit concerned when I saw the 70 million figure. But now I recalled the apron is set at 4 million above tax level.

But in some regards, now that Ray Allen is not here, I don't care much about that level being higher this year since we really can only use the vet. minimum and BAE this year to make moves, aside from S&T.

Yeah, I'm a bit surprised at that one.  In late Feb/early March, the projections were a cap of $60-$61 mil, and even last week I saw projections of $58-$60 mil.  We still have room to get under the $74.3 apron, but it makes life a bit trickier for Danny.

What do you mean "room to get under the $74.3 apron"? We're plenty under as currently constructed.
