Quote
J.R. Smith has agreed to sign a two-year, $2.8 million contract with the Knicks.

The second season is a player option.

It'll be interesting to see who the starting 2-guard in NY is between Smith and Shumpert.  The article notes that "Smith is expected to be New York's starting shooting guard with Landry Fields all but certain to end up with the Raptors," but with NY's lack of scoring/creation off the bench it seems like Smith would be the ideal 6th man for that team.

Definitely think they're better off starting Shumpert.

Kidd/Linn/Shumpert/Smith could work, not sure how smith would handle his role.

Crappy contract - JR Smith should be up at the full MLE at least.

JR Smith settling for another one year deal at $2.8m tells me there is a very soft market out there for young wings who have issues. I wonder if  NBA GMs feel the same way about Courtney Lee, who doesn't have the rep of a JR or Nick Young.

(Smith's deal is for two years with the second a player option.  It's a holdover deal and he hopes to try again for the elusive long term deal next summer).

Yeah, essentially a Posey situation.

Lol lets be honest he is FAR from sucking. He is very talented and can be a huge boost to any team off the bench. He has starter capabilities idc what anyone say. This man can be an instant fan favorite anywhere.

It's a decent deal for him.  If he can show he's not a headcase for a year, and has a good year, then he can get the a longer deal next off-season.  If he isn't able to (I think he's likely to have at least one meltdown sometime), then he still has a contract for next year.  And he seems like the type of guy who likes NY, so that's a bonus.

Dang: on a one year $5 mil deal, I'd rather have him than Terry for 3 years.
