The two and a half summer league games didn't make me think he's much of a prospect.

I have only watched parts of a couple games so far, but I have not been impressed with Christmas.  He hasn't looked particularly great at anything.

With that said, he does seem to do the little things, and they might just not show up in a summerleague game as much.

TP for you. Everyone clamoring for him to make the team at SG is not thinking this through. I don't think him nor moore are NBA talent. Where does Christmas play? You either have to start him or JET at the 2 until bradley returns...don't think you can do either really...

Boston needs a LEGIT SG brought in

To be fair, this team is in DEEP if they go into the season with anyone who is playing on the summer league team penciled in to the rotation.  They need at least once more proven, rotation quality guard.

Whether its Moore, Christmas, or someone else, those guys are fighting for spots at the back of roster, not spots in the rotation.

Nobody--or almost nobody--is advocating Xmas over Lee.  The best chance for Xmas IMO is if Danny manages to swing a S&T that would bring Lee or another starting-capable SG in, because he likely would have to use Moore's unguaranteed contract to make such a deal palatable to a trading partner.  Then you need one more guy for depth.  I think a case could be made that that guy should be a backup PG, though once Bradley returns they'd be okay with depth there anyway.

But either way, two things you want from the last guy on your guard depth chart are 1) he's cheap, and 2) there's the potential to build him up as an asset of at least some value.  Particularly for the C's, I think you'd also want to add 3) that he be a big guard with adequate defensive capabilities.  XMas could IMO fill all three of those.

If you only have watched parts of a couple of games how can you know, a quick snap judgment based on very little?  That's why scouts and coaches watch hours and hours of tape.  Sullinger, Christmas (shows leadership and maturity--a sense of what is needed in different situations, had a 41 point game in Europe last year), and Joseph IMO have played like they are very solid, smart players, also Moore (now and then), and look to potentially be able to contribute.  Until you see how they fit in with the vets..it is guess work.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I think he makes the roster.

Tyronn Lue said that for Vegas, Christmas was supposed to switch over to the Hawks summer league team, but Lue said Christmas decided instead to stay on with the Celtics.

His exact quote (which I can't find now) was "When he's so close to making the cut, why go anywhere?"

If we're keeping a project guard he's probably our guy then.

I have seen enough of Moore over the last two years to feel very confident he doesn't have the size and athleticism to be a regular rotation player in the NBA, and while he is a good shooter, he is not a great one to overcome that.

And Christmas has been kicking around the D-league for a few years now I believe.  So, I am assuming that what I have seen in the little I have seen of him is the reason why he hasn't caught on in the NBA.

Both of them are tough, hardnosed players, and I would love to have either of them at the end of the bench, in case of emergencies, and to be practice bodies.  But I just don't see either of them as much more than that.

As far as Sullinger, I wasn't including him in discussion.  I meant to say "perimeter rotation".  I think Sullinger could absolutely be in the rotation, and he is significantly more talented and NBA ready than anyone else on the team.  Although they will be in better shape if they don't have to rely on Sully early, and can make him earn his minutes.

It was Houston that he had a loose agreement with to play for them in Vegas.

Right, I found the quote:

Quote from: @Jimmy_Toscano
Christmas was to play in Vegas w/ HOU, but C's wanted him back: "He has a good shot at making the team, so why would you leave?" Lue said.

He rebounds very well for a guard and has been devilish and active on D.

no way you can waste 2 roster spots on project guards like christmas and moore. Maybe one makes the team..but no way do both

I like Christmas. I thought his last game was maybe his best game. His defensive energy was the best of anybody on the floor. He absolutely blanketed John Jenkins. I know ATL has a bad squad and Jenkis is fairly one-dimensional but Xmas was exceptional at helping and then closing out on shooters and forcing Jenkins into a couple of turnovers. He was denying penetration consistently. He and Melo in the first half were the 2 biggest reasons the defense was good yesterday. And offensively he looked smooth and unlike the other guards(including Moore) never looked rushed on the break or at any time. He may be a project but I think he makes the team out camp.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...
