I think the Sullinger - BBD comparison is a good one, but that doesn't mean I think they're equal talents. Sullinger reminds me of what we hoped BBD's ceiling could be, that he never quite reached.

And I've always though that if BBD was a little bigger, and rebounded better, and could make that jumper consistent, he'd be a borderline all-star. I think Sullinger can do those things.

If I had to put a player comparison on Sullinger I'd say Grandmama Larry Johnson.  Sullinger is a little taller, a bit less athletic.  Both seem to have that undersized craftiness down low to their games.

Some guys have that. They just seem to be able to see angles, judge defenders and use their bodies and quick releases to get shots off.  Larry Johnson was one of those guys.  Craig Smith is one of those guys.  Big Baby was not one of those guys.

This guy is gonna be a bull on the inside , Rick Mahorn like...He seems to have a nose for the ball.  He winds up around it alot.  LArry Bird wasn't a great jumper, its about knowing how to use what you got.  Same with Kevin Love. Sully has nice touch and good range away from the basket too.

KG will get him and Melo tuffened up .  I bet KG was watching.

KG gonna turn those boys into a pair of pitbulls on the glass .  I saw some good things out of both players.

with Sullys type of game , he is going to lead the team in foul shots when he gets some serious playing time.

Finally some young legs.

That Larry Johnson comparison is an interesting one. He could play the 3 though. But I see what you're getting at.

The biggest question mark around Sullinger aside from his back...whatever, is whether he will be able to operate in the block when the other guy is almost always taller, and can jump higher.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
He played well in his first game. The only knock I would have is his help defense wasn't great. It usually takes players some time to adjust to the speed of nba players and their rotations. I think he will develop this by the end of the season and get serious minutes for us.

The only way I don't see him getting a lot of minutes is if the Celtics go small a ton. If they are able to get a sign and trade deal done for Courtney Lee or OJ Mayo, with Terry, Rondo and AB all needing minutes I see the Celtics going really small (like the did against Miami in the playoffs).

I expect Sullinger to lose weight. Perkins was way bigger than Sullinger early in his career and he lost a lot of weight while playing for the Celtics.

I can see Sullinger really benefiting from playing with Rondo and KG. Rondo is going to get him the ball in the most effective places for him to score in the post and create shots for Sully when Rondo drives. Kg covers so much ground that he will make up for some of Sully's defensive deficiencies. I hope he will develop into a good charge taker over the course of his career.

DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I like Sullinger to be on a faster learning curve then Big Baby and contribute somewhere between how Baby did his rookie year and second year when he stepped in for KG.
