The article itself is titled "DeJuan Blair Expects Trade From Spurs" but Blair's comments don't go that far.  They do, however, indicate that it might come to that.

Quote
“I love the Spurs, but they’ve got a lot of ‘bigs,’ and they’re bringing somebody else from overseas, so where am I going to fall at?” Blair said. “I was out of the rotation at the end of the season, so imagine next year. That’s something I really don’t want to go through again, because it tore me down.”

Quote
“The Spurs are excellent,” Blair said. “They used me to get everybody going and just get to the playoffs. That’s what it’s seemed like the last two seasons. But it’s a business, and everybody has their role, and I played mine, obviously, in the season. That’s proved right now."

Blair is on a 1-year team option for $1M.

  • It's what I do! It's who I am!
He really fell on the depth chart during the postseason. I didn't follow it closely enough to know why, but if Pop doesn't like you, that's not a good sign.

He's not that good, he's undersized for the 5 spot, and guys usually land in Pop's doghouse for good reason...  but there's no doubt in my mind that he would HELP, at least a little.

The question is; is he any better than Sully?  That's hard to answer without seeing Sully play yet.  But, if San Antonio said "we'll give you Blair for JJJ," I'd have to think long and hard about it.

If he wants out because he want more playing time, I'm not sure fighting Jeff Green, Sully, and maybe Stiemsma for minutes behind KG and Bass will be considered much of an upgrade.

I'd imagine they'd be in the market for a servicable PG right now anyways, something we can't really offer.

Plus he can do a lot more.

...  and potentially a bad back.  Let's hope it proves to be a non-issue (but there are about a dozen NBA teams that felt a reason to be worried).

I'd definitely do this depending on how we fill out our front court in free agency.  Blair has proven that he can contribute at the NBA level at the PF/C position off the bench.  JJJ has not.  I can't see the Spurs making this trade though if the problem already is too much depth in the front court.

I'm not saying than San Antonio would want JJJ, I just can't think of anyone else that they WOULD want on our roster that we'd be willing to give up.  I'm sure they'd like Bradley, but he's not available!  So, I doubt that a trade would work.

To be honest I'm a bit sick of the undersized bigs, but for Blair I'd make an exception. We'd have 3 undersized bigs in Bass, Sullinger, and then Blair.

At least Bass (as Big Baby's replacement) adds a new dimension with his shooting/mid-range prowess. Not sure about Blair's shooting abilities.

Blair = below average backup PF

Not much to Boston. They have superior options in Bass and Sullinger. Blair doesn't add enough to the team to warrant giving up an asset for him.
