Apparently, the Celtics worked out Joey Dorsey a few weeks ago.

Why is this of interest (besides the fact that it's a slow Monday morning)?

1. Boston may need a cheap replacement for Stiemsma, if the Wolves are indeed prepared to make him an offer north of $2.5 million per year.

2. If Dwight Howard is traded to the Nets, Kevin Garnett is going to need a big, physical backup. Dorsey has never posted big numbers in the NBA. But he possesses real, rare strength and size.

Will have to see how things unfold this week, with contracts finalized, possible resolution to rumored sign-and-trades, and offer sheets being made and matched. Dorsey's probably no more than a 13th man on a roster, but I wouldn't be surprised if his name pops up again in the coming weeks.

Guy is 6'8, 270. I believe our quota for vertically challenged big men is complete for this season.

  • It's what I do! It's who I am!
You know what they say, you can never have enough undersized power forwards. That's how it goes, right?

He should team up with Glen Davis. Should be great in stopping penetration, since there won't be enough space on the court to drive past them.

Dorsey isn't really a replacement for Stiemsma. Playing him at center doesn't work too well.

Dorsey needs to play PF alongside a highly skilled center who can create proper spacing for the team as a whole despite Dorsey's limited offensive game. Be the Varejao to someone's Zydrunas Ilgauskas. That type of role is what Dorsey needs to be successful in the NBA. Garnett offers that, the backup centers (Fab Melo, Stiemsma, Hollins, S.Williams) do not.

I'd like to bring Dorsey in as a backup PF. He offers a very different skill-set and quality alternative to the Celtics current options (Bass, Sully, JJJ, Green) there.
