So KG has made it know that he wants to play the PF this year and not the Center.  He said the same thing last year though and he played center for half the season but who knows.

So right now we have

KG
Bass
Sullinger
JJJ
Sean Williams

I think its obvious that if Sean Williams does make this team that it will be as an end of the bench guy.

The part that really confuses me is Sullinger/JJJ.  Both of these guys need minutes to develop but I don't see them getting them here.  Doesnt this seem to be lining up for deal involving JJJ?

The signing of Bass leads me to believe KG will play center again with Sully being the first big off the bench. I know rookies don't contribute much for Boston, but we've never had a rookie like Sullinger who was a top ten talent before the back issues.

I agree that it looks like Johnson is on the way out.

I think there's probably only room in the rotation for either JJJ or Sully, but that doesn't mean that one has to go.  They aren't going to get minutes to develop; if they show development in practice, they'll get a chance to contribute.  I expect it'll play out kind of like Powe/Baby a few years back, when it kind of went back and forth; it seemed like one guy would crack the rotation for a while, but it switch around sometimes.

But I'd hold onto both guys unless you're doing a S&T for a guy that's a lot better than someone we can get at the min.  Better to have two chances of finding a young, effective PF than one one.

EDIT: It is a big summer for JJJ, though.  You'd really like to see that he's ready to play, especially since he was already a four-year college player.  If he doesn't show much in camp/preseason, he might be on the way out.  At this point, though - I'd hold onto him if at all possible.

Bass starts at power-forward and KG starts at center.  Sullinger and Johnson will fight for the back op forward the same way Moore and Bradley fought at the beginning of last year.  Remember last year when Moore got minutes over Bradley early on and he tweeted FML.  It's actually an identical situation.  The more athletic senior player over a rookie with a history of better production.  It will be fun to watch who takes the spot.  Sean Williams, if signed will also be in the mix.  This summer league would be a good place to see who steps up early.

Garnett is not playing PF. Sean Williams will likely not make the final roster.

Of the remaining ones, Bass is the likely starter, and Green will get some minutes at PF, so all you're left with that's up for grab is spot duty (~5-10 mpg at most). My guess is these go to Sullinger, unless Johnson _really_ distinguishes himself in camp.

Depending on who we sign, Sullinger may also see time at C.

Also, I'm really hoping we cut back KG's minutes next season/sit him for games.

Yes, KG will be playing "PF"

He said the same thing last year though and he played center for half the season but who knows.

That's my point.

KG
Bass
Sullinger
JJJ
Sean Williams

We are going to see a lot of different lineups this year.  We will see some with:

KG and Bass
KG and Sullinger
Bass and Sullinger
JJJ and KG
Jeff Green and KG
KG and A Center To Be Named Later
Bass and A Center To Be Named Later
Sullinger and A Center To Be Named Later
JJJ and A Center To Be Named Later
Jeff Green and A Center To Be Named Later

and on and on...

That's what the flexibility of our roster allows you to do.  KG is a 4/5.  Sullinger is a 4/5.  Jeff Green is a 3/4.  JJJ might even be a 3/4.

Heck, Bass did an admirable job defending Lebron, maybe even he could play the 3...

Doc has is work cut out for him, in a good way.  Assuming we are healthy he will have a lot of tools to work with all season long, and in order to keep Pierce and KGs minutes down he will have to be a wizard with the roster

I wouldn't be so sure about Williams not taking that last spot in the rotation as a young, active big guy who can block shots and rebounds.

Bass starts.  I think you'll see JJJ and Sully battling out, a lot like you saw BBD and Powe as semi-interchangeable parts during our title run.  It should be a year-long battle.

And yes, Williams should be gone.

So we are all assuming that KG is going to play the 5 then?

I want him to, I just hope he won't make a big deal out of it.  Though if there is anything we learned from Doc starting Avery over Ray is that he is going to do what is best for the team.

I think Sullinger will ultimately get a ton of minutes if he plays well, mostly because of his ability to play C. With Green in the fold, there are only that many minutes available behind Bass.

S. Williams is slated to get minutes at Center in Summer League ... so he may be in the mix at center for the C's. D, rebounding and hustle on the fast break.

We have a ton of minutes open there, since as of now KG basically has no primary backup.
