Next year's draft is meant to be one of the weaker drafts in recent memory, isn't it?

Does that effect anyone's views on the value of Boston's pick next season?
Wasn't the draft with Brooks supposed to be pretty weak as well?

I don't get too caught up in draft forecasts when trying to figure the value of picks. Even in "loaded" drafts there are enough busts to make them a crapshoot.

I would probably take the pick.  I have a feeling Brooks could be in China in a few years.  Just not a team player.

I would do it. The C's already have the Bobcat's second round pick which I am sure will be very close to a first round pick. Why not take a flier on a guy who showed a lot of promise in his first year? I think Marshon and Rondo would be pretty exciting to watch on the fast break.

Why not take a flier on whomever Danny decides to draft next year instead?

Before he broke his toe he was averaging 14.8pts 4.4rbs 1.6ast while shooting 46% from the field and 35% from three in only 29 minutes. That's pretty solid for a rookie. Small sample size but still.

Yeah, but my thought is that Danny can pretty easily draft a solid rookie.  How was his defense?

82games.com says that the Nets were -1.9 points per 100 possessions without him on the floor.  And -11.2 points per 100 possessions with him on the floor.  So the Nets were a below average team without him, a horrid team with him.

Sure, this might prove nothing in the end, but to me if you take a chance on him, it is purely taking a guess and a shot in the dark.  Much like the draft.  Except one less year of a rookie contract because he played a year already.

Because I think Marshon Brooks can help us this year and can also grow into a potential future all star. We know that the Celtics are contenders are right now. What we don't know is if they will be contenders next year. The Celtics need all of the help they can get this upcoming season. Marshon Brooks would certainly be a pretty sweet addition.

I'm sorry, but that seems like a HUGE stretch to me.  We have really no evidence to prove this.  He looks like the same guy that 20+ GMs passed on during the draft (including Danny).  He has done little to raise his stock. And probably wouldn't crack our rotation.

He's certainly nothing special on defense, but I'd probably be okay with it because KG seems to make everyone good on D.

If you are signing him for immediate help, wouldn't you rather have a proven veteran?

If you are signing him for long-term help, KG shouldn't be a factor in your decision.

What's he shown to make you think he's a potential All Star?

I'd consider using the Charlotte 2nd rounder, but not a first.  I mean, we're all pretty stoked about our most recent 1st rounder, Sully.  We'll probably be drafting next year at around the same spot, high-teens/low-20s.  Would you rather have the chance for next year's Sully, or Brooks?  There's no shortage of guys in the NBA who can score 13 points on 12 shots.

I would! think this kid can create his shot anytime he wants.

Funny how some would take Gerald Green back but not MBrooks.  I think he is better than GGreen, and only has one year under his belt.

This kid can make something out of a broken play.  Now, how many players do we have that can do that.  PP used to, but not anymore, at least not in a consistent way....is there any one else(that can actually make a shot while doing it).

On/Off court numbers are really touchy when you only have a single seasons worth of data to go off of. The Net were such a rubish defensvie team overall its hard to isolate a perimeter defenders true value.

I don't really disagree with your overall thoughts, I'm just not a fan of unadjusted on/off numbers. For example KG and the lack of anyone behind him makes his own (and other Celtics who play more minutes with him) look great via raw on/off stats.

How 'bout the fact that Orlando is looking to rebuild, but apparently wants no part of Brooks as a young, cheap scoring guard?  Doesn't that tell us SOMETHING about how Brooks' career is playing out so far?
