Raja Bell On Verge Of Buyout With Jazz, Wants To Play For Winning Team
Jul 08, 2012 10:12 PM EDT

Raja Bell is finalizing a buyout with the Jazz.

"I've been given the greenlight and we've agreed to terms," said Bell, who's set to make $3.4 million this season.

Bell is intrigued by the possibility of joining the Heat, Celtics or Lakers.

"We typically play it pretty close to the vest. [Agent] Herb [Rudoy] and I are pretty private," Bell said. "But, in essence, [I'm] pretty much a free agent. I don't think the Is are dotted and the Ts are crossed. But we've been given the greenlight by Utah to go ahead and find something that works for us. We've agreed to the terms. So I think it's safe to say now we are in the market again and we're entertaining our options at this point."

So does this guy have anything left? He shot 40% from 3 last year, but is he still the defender he used to be? If Lee falls through, I wouldn't mind adding Bell at all if he isn't cooked.

No he's not a good defender anymore, but he's another option to keep our eye on.

No interest. Raja Bell has fallen off too much.

A third string quality SG who's ego has problems accepting that. Not worth the hassle.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I would much rather have Pietrus. It's nice to have a player want to play for us and mention us in the same sentence as Miami and LaL (that has been unheard of in years past), but he just isn't needed in our system.

Pietrus is my number one over Courtney Lee even probably...

This is a good plan C though on the wing.

Ridiculous all the coat tail riders to MIA.   ::)

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
At this point career wise we are probably better off with Pietrus- he also knows our system. Lakers can have Bell.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Ya I'm glad Ray Allen left for the Heat too.  Definitely not worth the hassle  ;)

Well, it might not be Pietrus vs. Bell.  It might be no one vs. Bell.  If Bell wants to come here, it might be the best we can do.

I don't think that's true at all.  I'm completely convinced that if Danny wants Peaches back, he will be back.

A portion of Raja Bell's 2011 scouting report from "NBA Post Up":

"Very weak outside defensively
Mediocre perimeter defender
Can not really play post defense
Weak guarding in transition
Little quickness"

"Raja Bell is not really an NBA level basketball player"

Yeah, but that same site says the same thing about M. Pietrus:

EDIT: nevertheless, I choose Pietrus over Bell, bc of familiarity.

There aren't a lot of vets that I actually slot below E'twan Moore, but Bell is one. He's looked really bad the last couple of years. I like that he plays hard, but that's about all you could say for him.
