Minnesota has to be the whitest team in the NBA.

It IS getting a little ridiculous, isn't it?

Celticsblog forums: where no one can read sarcasm

(even when it's followed by a clearly contradicting second statement that shows it being clearly sarcasm)

What you fail to realize is that it's the sarcasm that makes is a stupid post, not the actual joke.

No one would blame Stiemsma for doing that.  He'd being paid more money to play a significant role on a team from another conference.

What Ray did was took less money to play a lesser role for the enemy.

They are completely different circumstances.  If Ray had gone to the clippers for comparable (or even less) for a starter gig for the clippers, no one would blame him.  Going to the Heat for less money is completely different.

I would respect that. He wants to play near where he used to live. THAT is a legit reason to leave...Unlike guys like Howard who apparently wants to go to the Nets for his...Adidas deal...*BARF*

If we lose Stiemsma that 1mil we offered him could go towards a Courtney Lee, or another center...I want Wilcox badly.

No, you tried to harp on people for missing the joke, when people understood it fine.  It was just  a dumb comparison and you were the one who was missing the point.

They also have Martell Webster. He can flat out shoot the ball. Ainge has options if Minnesota want to do a sign and trade.

I thought Stiemsma played himself into a three year $9-10 million deal by the latter stages of the regular season (Joel Anthony type contract but with less years, project center with good potential as a backup C). He sucked in the playoffs (mostly due to injuries) so that figure should come down a bit. Maybe two years $4-5 million.

Anyway, I think he'd be a good price anywhere in that range. I'd give Stiemsma $2-3 million a year to be a serviceable backup with the potential to be a high end backup if he improves his fundamentals some.

However, I don't see the value for Minnesota though with Pekovic + Darko already there. I wouldn't give a third string center more than the minimum. But hey, they are the same team that gave Ryan Hollins $7 million over 3 years to be a third string center a few years ago so they might just do that again.

No interest in Webster. I think injuries have ruined his career.

Below average backup SF.

... you are still taking this too seriously.

It was a joke.

You don't have to take a joke and extend it to be a way of thinking.  You don't need to take a joke as a "comparison".

A post on a message board isn't "harping".

See ya, I'm out on this one.  Keep getting worked up about a joke though.

Of course Stiemsma wants to play for Minnesota ... Danny is making little-to-no effort to re-sign him. Minnesota are the ones that are showing strong interest in him. That they want him.

How does anybody know what kind of effort Danny is making where Stiemsma is concerned?

Yeah, except for the fact that Green can:

1. Score the basketball.

2. Defend without racking up fouls at a breakneck pace.

3. Actually catch the basketball when it's thrown to him.

Guess I missed the "serious health concerns," since all I read is that Green has been pronounced perfectly healthy.

However, we all know this blog would never, ever, EVER over-romanticize any low-budget player Danny Ainge brings in. Perish the thought.

Personally, I could care less where Stiemsma plays. And if Ainge pays him $3 million a year, the only remotely acceptable reason I can think of is to facilitate the acquisition of Terry under these stupid cap rules.

Because there's ZERO way Greg Stiemsma is worth $3 large a year. None.

Want to explain to me where else I can find a center who rebounds and blocks shots at an elite level for 3 million a year? Name one other player who gets 5 blocks per 48 minutes that's not getting paid at least that much.
Steamer elite?

LOL.

Let's just say your definition of elite is FAR more liberal than mine.

There are a lot of words I'd use to describe him: Slow, mediocre, foul-prone, terrible rotating defensively.

Elite isn't one of them.

People get so worked up on this board when their favorite players filter out.

Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

  • It's all about the TEAM!
I'll be honest, I'll miss the guy. I know he was raw but I thought the kid had potential. Especially with a full camp and under the continued guidance of KG. He has an intangible that you don't see in all players. A lot of heart and desire.

That being said, if the kid gets paid and goes to Minny, I will cheer him on every time I see him (except when he plays us).

I really feel like we should up our game on trying to retain him, but I don't think we will.

He won't hurt nearly as bad as Ray made us feel burned. Steamer will be more of a feel good type and I'd wish him nothing but the best.
