I don't understand why Melo is Perkins 2.0. They're not really similar, in play, personality, or athletic abilities.

I guess both kind of limited offensively, but solid defensively.

I can't help but be happy for Stiemsma. He made the Celtics squad and played well and now will become a millionaire when last year at this time he may have been contemplating stopping basketball altogether. Pretty cool story.

I don't think Stiemsma necessarily want to play for Minnesota. He is at a point in his career where it has become a necessity for him to make some money. He is 26 and finally got his opportunity to show he had some skill last year.

$3 Million is a ton of money for someone like Greg. If you really look at the situation as a whole, he hasn't fully proved himself worthy of that type of money. He is just being smart and taking the money because who knows if he will ever earn that type of offer in the future.

I'm pretty sure that if you've been negotiating a potential contract with Minnesota for the better part of a week, it's implied that you want to play there.

This is much ado about nothing.

does anyone else think 3million$ for stiemsma is kind of a crazy offer from Minnesota?

I mean Steimer did perform well for Boston...but hes still a 26year old that was in the D-league 2 years ago and only performed well for 1season(playing next to garnett)

He often was subbing in for Garnett actually and if you look at what Asik just got and consider Steimer's numbers are very similar it's really not crazy at all.

ya, i just think Bigs are getting grossly overpaid in the NBA these days though

eh sure I guess but it's been this way for a while.  The market is the market.  It's hard to keep calling it overpaying when everyone does it constantly.

Well, if Stiemsma really is being offered $3m, he's gone.  The Celtics literally CAN NOT match that offer, as in the CBA rules don't allow them to.

Oh well, good luck in Minny Greg.

Sometimes I really ask myself if CB is watching the same games that I'm watching. It's RIDICULOUS how little credit is given to Stiemsma... I mean flat-out ridiculous. It feels like everyone on here cares more about his pedigree (d-league) and age than his actual performance.

When Stiemsma was on the court last season, he posted a WP48 of .181, while being one of the best per-minute shot blockers in the NBA, being a solid rebounder, and scoring efficiently. The average WP48 is .99. And it was his ROOKIE season! What the hell else could you possibly want from a rookie?

Considering the current price of bigs in the NBA, getting him for 3 million would be a steal, and that's assuming he doesn't improve at all (which he should, since he'll be entering his prime).

And these same people who think paying Stiemsma is a waste of money are somehow OK with paying Jeff Green $9 million a year, who has never been more than an average player his entire career and is coming back with serious health concerns. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Yeah, except for the fact that Green can:

1. Score the basketball.

2. Defend without racking up fouls at a breakneck pace.

3. Actually catch the basketball when it's thrown to him.

Guess I missed the "serious health concerns," since all I read is that Green has been pronounced perfectly healthy.

However, we all know this blog would never, ever, EVER over-romanticize any low-budget player Danny Ainge brings in. Perish the thought.

Personally, I could care less where Stiemsma plays. And if Ainge pays him $3 million a year, the only remotely acceptable reason I can think of is to facilitate the acquisition of Terry under these stupid cap rules.

Because there's ZERO way Greg Stiemsma is worth $3 large a year. None.

Roy,

You said this:  "TRAITOR!!  Burn him at the stake!!

Or, realize the Stiemsma is going to do what's best for himself on a personal level."

Are you really equating Ray and Greg's situations?  Greg is getting offered much more money that we cannot match and we offered Ray twice the money per year and included a no trade clause, that I believe ONLY two other players have in the league.

Yes, the similarities are so obvious.  I apologize for missing them.

Smitty77

P.S.  I hope you were just being sarcastic.

Want to explain to me where else I can find a center who rebounds and blocks shots at an elite level for 3 million a year? Name one other player who gets 5 blocks per 48 minutes that's not getting paid at least that much.

Roy himself is about to be burned at the stake for that comment.  ;)

Happy for Steamer Minnesota are going to pay him. The reward of all his hard work. Years grinding trying to get to the NBA. And now he'll be paid like an NBA player. Thanks for last year. Good luck in Minnesota.
