He'd stay -- Pierce has much more loyalty to the organization than Ray Allen or anyone else on the roster does. He has spent so much time here and gone through so many things. It would take a lot to push him away from the team.

He has been in this situation, and he remained a Celtic.

I doubt pierce's competitive nature would allow him to be a glorified 3-point specialist for Miami to ride on Bron/wades coat-tails

thats really I think what angers me the most...its not That ray left, but how he did and where he went

The situation is this one

Being replace by Jeff Green in the lineup

contract up and hes 37 years old now

I bet he would either Retire or leave

What do you think

All of the above are acceptable. I'll tell you this, he won't leave the Celtics to the team who just eliminated him from the ECF on a cheaper contract than what the Celtics offered him.

Is not that he left, is that he went to the one team that we all hate and at a discount for God sake!

PP, probably would have gone for the money I am guessing, but never to the Heat, Lakers or Knicks.

Eventually he'll retire, I'd be very surprised if he just left, especially to be a role player on another team. I think if he had a choice between retiring a Celtic or being the 4th or 5th best player on the defending champs he'd retire.

He would have the same mentality that KG had this off-season. Stay a Boston Celtic or retire as a Boston Celtic. KG and Pierce are a lot like in similar ways. They believe in loyalty and have dedicated themselves to being a Celtic for life. Ray Allen is thinking about himself and his family more than loyalty to this organization. Which I respect and understand, but I rather have KG and Pierce for that exact reason.

  • It's what I do! It's who I am!
Around the deadline he said that if a trade involving him happened that he'd be okay with it because it would benefit the Celtics. Now that's loyalty right there.

Otherwise he will stay in Boston.

We'll see in two years.  Maybe we'll meet the Lakers in the 2014 NBA finals, and Paul will go join his boyhood team the following off-season.

For now I'm feeling fairly confident that won't happen.  I think the former part of that scenario is more likely than the latter part.

It isn't the fact that he left for a rival in order to have a chance at a ring that gets under my skin.
It's the fact that he left a viable Eastern Conference contender (our Celtics) for the team that had eeked out victories over us the past 2 playoffs -- and -- that he passed up a hometown PREMIUM for a rival DISCOUNT in the process.  Of course it's his right to do so and I am sure he has his good reasons. But, I don't have to like it.

I don't know if Pierce would to the same thing, but if he did, I'd feel the same way I feel about Ray -- good riddance!

He'd stay, he's been a Celtic all his life, he has Celtic Pride. Paul Pierce is a true Celtic.
Celtics fan in Houston.

KG got signed to 34 million and also didnt lose a spot, or get a diminished role

Pierce has been in more trade rumors the Ray during his career in Boston.  I don't buy this B.S. about Ray being offended about trade rumors.  That's the nature of the business and you have to respect a GM for trying to make his team better.  Pierce gets that, otherwise he would have done the same thing a few years back.

Pierce also would not go to the one team that we clearly need to get by to get to the NBA Finals.

Pierce also knows that if he did go to the Lakers or Miami, willingly, he put his Celtics legend in serious trouble.

But then again, that's why he is the captain and Ray is not.
