Odd side note in this, had Green signed a 1 year contract, the C's would have lost his Bird Rights at the end of the season.

We would still have had his Non-Bird Rights, but that would only allow us to sign him for an amount up to 120% of his previous salary.  If Green did just so happen to have an awesome season, we could have been exposed to losing him to another team who might be willing to go above the 120% we could pay.

The multi-year deal is essentially protection against that.

I think the amount of this deal is to be expected and I'm fine with it.  We have almost an entire roster of players that are earning below their market value.  Think about it, KG, Rondo, Terry, Bass, Bradley, etc. are all arguably on team friendly deals considering their actual production.   You can't expect every contract to be like that.  Danny's done an amazing job constructing this roster so far, and in my opinion this is just another big piece that he's added.  Every NBA GM makes deals that have a certain level of risk to them and considering the deals we've seen thrown around so far this offseason to players like Lin and Asik, Green's deal isn't bad.  Just look at some of the players who are earning similar salaries as Green, many of them comparable or worse as players.

I think the pressure is up to him to live up to it now, and I think he certainly has the talent and ability to actually outplay the value of his contract.  Let's hope he does.

I agree with you, but if it was either no green or green but for too much money I would prefer green for too much money.  What do you think?

This is a good move IMO

If you look at Joe Johnson's $120million 6yr contract as appose to young and upcoming Jeff Green. $36million over 4years is nothing.

He is Paul Pierce's replacement IMO. Kevin Garnett's contract is more ridiclous IMO. sure he was a beast post season, But there comes a time where we have to blow this up

If we get Mayo or Courtney Lee il be happy with that. We got a good team + we kept Brandon Bass!

Im not bothered about Ray Allen. Good luck to the guy but we have to get younger. Mayo or Lee would be ideal, especially Mayo

All we need now is a Center

It's a bit much, but I'd say let's give the man until perhaps January before final judgement, IMO.

There's no doubt that the man will be seeing consistent minutes - at both SF and PF slots.

Let's see what he does with those minutes, the stability he now has, AND the fact that he WANTS to be in BOS. I have a feeling it will do wonders for the YOUNG man.

We need some youth, and he's definitely young...and FAST...and QUICK...and a bit long for a SF..and strong, too.

Add experienced in there, as well. The man has been to battle before, vs the likes of Pau and whomever else OKC had to battle out west. He won't be like a deer in the headlights out there, especially with some stability.

I'd bet Rondo is happy...he has another bullet in his chamber to use, now. Add Courtney Lee or OJ Mayo and Rondo will have a Mini-Gun.

I know that it's a bit risky to give someone a contract like that based off of potential, but the man showed flashes in BOS even after The Trade first happened.

I think Danny did well here.

Green is overpayed.

Positive side, he could be useful in terms of trading.

Let say by midseason, Howard wants to come here.  (long shot but just go with me)

Green and a nine million contract suddenly comes in handy.

Danny Ainge is a ****in idiot ; seriously not one other team was even considering giving him a contract in this ballpark.

This should be the nail in the coffin of a tragic off-season
lol u still mad doggie? dis has been a great offseason so far. dis contract is a lor high wit $9 mil per year but he can prolly exceed dat wit his play if he's more aggressive cuz da talent is there wit Jeff Green to average 20ppg

The fact that a guy like Gee is being considered better or his equal?  Yeah...

Gee's per-36 numbers for his career: 12.4pts/6.2reb/1.8ast/1.5stl, shooting .430/.345/.772

Green's: 14.8pts/5.9reb/1.8ast/1.0stl, shooting .445/.337/.773

Defensively, they are both average.

Gee is 25. Green is 25.

Are you saying it's insane to call them similar? The only difference I see is that Gee is a SG/SF, while Green has been a PF/SF. But in terms of the production they give you, it looks pretty close.

Also if we can somehow get a decent Center then i think we can go far next season

I'll give you all that but as I said you can't look at these things in a vacuum.

Gee plays on a Cavs team that needs anyone to score points.  Green has played with the best scorer in the league, Westbrook, Harden, etc and our team that has a lot of people who score in a balanced way.

I don't think Green is being given a fair shake given these realities.

Sure he is, if you're given 30+ MPG for multiple years you've had your opportunities.

Also consider that he played the exact same meh basketball for us in a backup role. Stats were very consistent with his per minute averages.

That's just the player he is.
