I'm not saying in their careers, because clearly Ray allen is the better player when you put everything together.

but im talking right now in 2012...and I have to say I think that Jason Terry clearly is the better player right now.

he may not be a better shooter than Ray allen(and his percentages confirm that)

BUT he is a better "scorer" than ray allen, handles the ball better, and can create his own shot..something Ray allen cannot do anymore. the guy also is #4 on most 3 pointers made list...he also is a career 6th man. so he will have NO trouble allowing Avery Bradley to start and be the guy to come off the bench and knock down shots

Like 80% of the time when comparing players (especially elite ones), both have their strengths and weaknesses.

At this point yes. Probably due to the fact that Terry makes his own shot and doesn't need the offense run through him.

I think yes overall.

Ray better on D and more versatile there.  A better shooter but not by too much.

Biggest thing for me is that Terry can make plays, take it to the rim or get himself a shot off the dribble or make a shot for someone else.  This is what this team needed BADLY.  More than just a great shooter who can't make a play.

We are going to have to hope so.  One thing that I've always liked about the JET is that he has always struck me as someone with a considerable nasty streak.  I think he'll relish the role of replacing Ray Allen, and I think he'll play with chip on his shoulder.  I think that his personality will mesh well with this locker room.

JET, I welcome you as a member of the Boston Celtics.  Help us wipe away the sour taste that Ray Allen has left in our collective mouths.

What's more important is Bradley being a better player than Ray at this point in time.

Is the Ray Allen we saw in the playoffs the Ray Allen you're going to see the rest of his career, or will his ankles come around.

Even healthy, Ray's lost a step or two.  Defensively, he's a turnstyle against quicker players. Luckily for Allen, all he will have to do in Miami between rounds of golf is stand 23 feet from the hoop and hoist up open threes.

Terry's a different kind of player, someone who can generate points on his own. JT is almost as good a shooter as Allen, 45/38/85 to 45/40/89 for Benedict Allen.

The Cs were something like 20-9 with Bradley starting last season.  Hopefully, he'll get healthy and start, with Jet coming off the bench as a scoring spark, and also as backup PG when Rondo sits.  He's an nice fit for Boston, and a pro-active signing for Ainge, who must have knew that Allen was going to punk out on Boston and slink down to Miami.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
The problem with Ray in our system is he couldn't free himself running around screens. Rondo would sit at the top of the key waiting for Ray to get free and when he couldn't there were only like 5 seconds left on the shot clock.

Terry is quicker and more likely to get open on those screens. If Ray got open defenders would close out on him with reckless abandon because Ray wasn't that likely to go by them. If they close out on Terry in the same way he'll go to the hoop.

Terry is also much better suited for a bench scorer role than Ray because he can handle the ball and create his own shot.

For me the question isn't who is better, because it was never an either or situation. The question is can Bradley and Pietrus come back and make up for the loss in shooting with defensive intensity.

yup, TP

i think Ray is the better player, but the role he accepted in Miami is kind of disgraceful, and it was earlier filled by Mike Miller in a wheelchair. If this truly is about "friction" with Rondo, I'll say gimme a break. We all played on a level of baketball(even the lowest possible one), and had to deal with stubborn, annoying, etc teammates. I know I have, but when it was time to play basketball we did just that. He is still one of my favourite players, but this move of his is horrible.

Ray has a better outside shot.

Ray provided better team defense.

Ray actually had height.

Terry will do more to provide and offensive punch off the table.

Celtics need a big guard.

Ray has been a heckuva player, but I think Terry is better at this point, at least for us. We desperately need guys who can score and create a shot. We just need more offensive talent for when Rondo and KG are not on the floor. Ray needs 5 moving screens from KG to get a shot these days and it kills our O and puts too much pressure on Rondo and Pierce.

Terry can just put in the hole, which is what we need..

Go get Gerald Green and we're good.

I think Terry will be better for us in various ways, but he wasn't brought here to replace Ray, so I really don't care about who of the two is better. We still need to fill the role that Ray was going to fill, and in my opinion he was going to be a starter if he signed.

Terry is not as good as Allen.  However, I can see an argument where he is a better fit for this team.  Terry's ballhandling and ability to create offense is something this team has been missing from someone other than Pierce and Rondo the last few years.  That may be more valuable to this team than the spot up shooting Ray has given them.

Simple answer, no. Jason Terry is not better than Ray Allen. However, the sting of losing Ray is significantly lessened by the fact that there's a Jason Terry in his place. However, it isn't equal value, no way. However, it's as close as you can get when losing Ray.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
No, he's not.

I just hope that he can keep up his play from Dallas.
