He's a bitter traitor/sellout, taking the easy way to another ring.

he didnt sell out for a title, he sold out because of rondo.

...and Danny, and Doc, and Avery, and not being in the top 3 of the big four....

makes you appreciate kg more right.

yes it does. not even comparable. KG is my favorite celtic since Bird...and he is definitely a special player in so many ways. His attributes are so much better than Ray Allen's I would not know where to begin.

Same here.

The Woj article made it clear that both were professionals while on the court.

In the locker room, the article suggests that both Ray and Rondo had their faults, and had essentially stopped talking.  Both could have probably handled it better.

Ray is borderline OCD.  Rondo is stubborn and a bit of a hot head.  There was a personality clash, and Ray decided he didn't want to deal with it any more.  That's understandable.

Ray wanted to be comfortable in his work place, and he wanted another chance at a title.  It sucks for us, but it sounds like he just didn't enjoy his last couple years in Boston, with the personality conflicts and trade rumors.
It'd suck for him, but I hope he airballs every shot for the rest of his career.

IMO, this is all about the trade last year.  Imagine what went through Ray's mind when he was told, "I just traded you to Memphis."

Trade rumors are one thing-you can rationalize rumors. But when you are told you are gone there is resentment, anger and hurt. Then what? Danny said, "No, Ray, the trade fell through but you are still wanted, treasured and valued." Bull-you can't do that.

Ray never forgot that feeling.

I don't think there's anything borderline about Ray's OCD. Rondo might be borderline.

Ray allen has destroyed his legacy in boston...while KG has likely cemented his number in the rafters no doubt about it...Boston fans are probably the most loyal in all of sports and this wont be forgotten. Ray will be viewed as Johnny damon.

they were talking about this on the radio today...the difference between Ray bourque and ray allen. at the time, the Bruins were a non-factor, so it was ok for ray to go and chase a cup...the celtics on the other hand are still going to be chasing a championship, but ray decided to jump ship and join the team that WE have to go through

read woj's article....I honestly dont see what rondo did that was soo wrong.

we all know he has an attitude...but apparantly Ray's biggest problem was that he didnt like a "younger guy" telling him what to do, or making just as much money as him.

same problem with avery bradley...he couldnt stand coming off the bench for a 21year old(yet is ok for wade)

it changes my opinion of the guy in a bad way..I thought Ray was better than that.

well, he is a multimillionaire who is now set for life if he has any investing or money management skills in his repertoire. Joe Blows like us will struggle the rest of our lives busting our behinds doing a job in the real world nowhere near as fun as being a pro sports player in comparison to him. Sorry, no sympathy from me. I am not irate or really even that mad he left. It is a business and I understand that. However it does not make what he did right. not at all. just my opinion.

I think this is the number one reason. It's one thing to have trade rumors and something else to actually get traded and then that trade falls flat. If I was Ray, I'd been p---ed about it too.
Then you add in the fact that you're taken out of the starting spot and replaced by a younger guy and the team brings in another shooter in the off season........... are we really that surprised
he took the Miami job?

1. He's been trade bait for years now.
2. He was actually traded last year but that didn't work out.
3. He's roll as a starter is up in the air (as it should be)
4. The Heat have defeated the Celtics the last two years now and have just won a ring. Like it or not they're the team of the East for a long time now. He's got a much better chance of winning and being on a relevant team for years now.
5. He has problems with Rondo. I'd like more details on these "problems." Perhaps Rondo was pushing for Ray not to be a starter anymore?
6. If he plays for the Heat he'll no longer have Wade blocking all his layups! Did you guys see how many times he got his stuff sent these last two years against Miami?
7. He can play golf all the time now.

Ray Allen is one of my all time favorite basketball players even before he became a Celtic. This move by him hurts me to the core and I'm going from sad, angry and desperately in denial. It's kind of like
my girlfriend dumped me. But this time the girlfriend had a few reasons to dump me.

Ray didn't look at the big picture . He thinks he did. But not really.  20 years from now it willbe remebered for waht it was to the fans of Boston. A stab in the back. Its best to end your career in harmony , not controversy. He'll regrett this move one day . Chace to go down in history mentioned with all the Boston greats , Russell, Bird, KG , Pierce....

Like Benedict Arnold his legacy now has a black mark.

Now it is apparent he did as much as possible to spit inthe face of his teamates, owner, fans and Doc too with his no remorse, 27 million acts of screw you guys I"M LEAVING TOWN.

He could have just asked out, made his piece and left . He wanted a bit of revenge , and thus will now pay the price with a blimish on his greatest moments that came as a Celtic.

The man everybody said was all class turned out to be LOW CLASS.

Have fun in Miami

As Celtic fans we think being a Celtic means everything to everyone. What if he wins 3 rings in Miami and becomes loved by that city? You think he'll lose sleep over what we think?

Somebody is bound to jump on me, but I really wonder how Ray's family feels about his Decision (capitalized on purpose). He has roots in New England and is settled in here. His son's doctors are here (not saying there aren't good doctors in Miami). He lives here. His Mom was a faithful Celtics fan who also lives here and loved going to the games (nice knowin ya Flo)......and for what?  Another championship?  Really?  We all just assume this factor trumps all others for athletes, but what about athlete's spouses and kids?  Is it their top priority too?  Especially since he already has a ring?

I am trying to visualize Ray telling his Decision to his family and their response.  "Dear family, I am going to Miami and we will see less of each other.  I have a 14% better chance of winning a second ring and oh by the way, they are going to pay me half what I could have gotten from the Celtics.  Also, I don't like my co-worker and I need to get away from him, OK?  I hope you understand.". (family's response: blank stares)

Seriously.  If you can't understand when someone is better for the team in that role, that there is CLEAR EVIDENCE of it, then you are not a "consummate professional", you are ignorant and a fool.

If he wins the rings as a spot up shooter in an awful sports city? Will never be the same.  He isn't part of a "big three" there, he's a mercenary.
