With the Ray loss, we also lose something else very valuable.....
a guard over 6'2". Yes when we think about positions, and think about this roster, we usually associate size with the Frontline, which is where most of the size in the league is. However, its important to not underestimate the value of having some size in the backcourt.

Right now we have: Rondo, Jet, Avery,(Dooling, E'Twaun), all are 6'2" and below. Thats a Problem!

Whomever we replace Ray with, they Must be at least 6'5". For a team like the Celtics, who pride themselves on their defense, it is imperative to have someone with size in the Backcourt.

So i urge everyone here on C's Blog over the next few days, as we put on our GM caps, and throw names out there, to consider thinking of guys (guards) who are available who have some size.

Players I'm thinking of off the top right now are:

Pietrus   6'6"
Michael Redd 6'6"
Matt Barnes 6'7"

What other guards are out there with size??

Pietrus is the logical option, and the best option. I hope it's him.

Bradley plays big at SG though. I think between him and pietrus will be big enough.

So your plan to solidify our backcourt defense is to sign Redd? Really?

I would love Brandon Rush, just because we need a 2 guard who can board.

TP for Michael Redd suggestion

I've wanted him to replace Ray 3 years ago. I think in Phoenix he proved he can still score, just needs the minutes and right situation. Ray was going to be a backup here anyway primarily as the bench scorer. Redd could do that. Redd could be a starter till Bradley comes back to get some chemistry with the team.

I too still want Pietrus back, but with Ray out, we need a sharpshooter and Redd is the man for it.
Size, experience and skill. Can't find that elsewhere with the price range Danny will be working with after signing Green.
Can't stop, Rondo!

6'6 33 year old Redd could play better team defense than old Ray Allen. Easy

And Redd would be used in the role that Ray was too prideful to play as; Spot up shooter off the bench.
Can't stop, Rondo!

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I'm hoping that Kris Joseph shows up like Howard ahowing up in his Cuse days. That's another scorer right there who can play 2/3. Big too.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.

SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine

Trade a future 1st rounder to whoever drafted Jeff Taylor.

First of all, I don't know that I agree with you. Secondly, that's a fairly low bar.

Anybody but Barnes. That guy is an idiot. Green plays the 2, doesn't he?

No, I think you've misunderstood the point Im trying to get at. If we have a Redd, Pietrus, Barnes, etc. we can matchup to certain teams better. If you are D-wade, Joe Johnson, Iguodala, etc. and you have rondo, Terry, or Avery on you, you are headed to the block with a size advantage....If you have pietrus or Redd out there I can guarantee you that the Wades,Johnsons, Iggys, Kobe's etc. wont run immediately to the block.

And it can work to our advantage on the other end at times against certain teams that have all small guards. Redd is actually a good low post player for a guard, and can take advantage of his size during certain matchups.

Its what they did with Ray when he had a avery bradley sized guard defending Ray, they would isolate Ray on the post.
