Losing Ray is tough.  He is a hall of famer, yadda yadda yadda.  But this team is pretty deep on the perimeter.  They have Rondo, Pierce, Bradley, Terry, and Green.  As long as everyone is healthy, that is a very strong rotation on the perimeter.  Throw in maybe another perimeter defender/shooter like Pietrus, and your set.

But, what this team is missing is reliable, rotation quality big men.  But they have one who they retain Bird rights for in Krstic.  He is not perfect, but he brings a level of skill this team can use, and when combined with KG, Bass, and Sullinger, and potentially someone like Wilcox or Stiemer, he can be really healthy.

The problem was, if they signed Ray, it might have been tight to sign Krstic below the hard cap "apron" of $74 million.  Now, they have plenty of breathing room.  I hope they use it, and bring back the big guy.  Solidify the front line a bit more, and look at the bright side of Ray moving on.

We may as well.  The other alternative is to just let the salary slot disappear, which doesn't help us a whole lot.

I say sign kristic just for the salary ballast he would be at trade time.

I agree. May as well try and beef up the frontcourt because the C's aren't going to be able to find a replacement for Ray.

This is exactly what I was thinking, and came here just now just to write this.  Therefore, I say it's a great idea!!!

I'm not a Kristic fan at all.  Do we really need another big who can't rebound?  But on the other hand if we lose Steimsma he'd make a lot of sense.

I agree, was saying this before the Ray Allen news. Why not get some depth at center and out-size all of these "athletic" teams? KG / Bass / Krstic / Sullinger / Melo / JJJ / Steimsma could be a formidable front line. Loading up on SGs when we have Bradley and Terry doesn't make much sense.

He was actually a pretty good offensive rebounder when he was here for that short time. Tommy almost blew his lid when he got a few in a game.
