With the signing of Bass the only starting lineup that makes sense is KG at the 5 . He will however (hopefully ) have some legit centers with size to back him up and move him to PF at times so he doesn't have to bang down low all game long.

-Hopefully Steamer will be back. I was just looking at his blocks per 48 mins for centers last year and he lead the league by a large margin with 5.33 Blks per 48 mins with Javel McGee being the next closest with 4.13 .  I think with the refs becoming familiar with him and not being a rookie he will pick up more blocks and less fouls. Also he should be better with rest for his foot injury.

-Melo has a ton of defensive potential. He has legit, size and athleticism. If he can pick up of the defensive schemes he could be a huge help.

-Wilcox can play both PF and C which makes him a nice luxury to have. He was the best player on the team running with Rondo and he has some beef to bang down low and decent offensive game. He has already said that he wants to rejoin the c's next season.

So would you be happy if this is our center rotation next year?

I'd be very happy, although I'm skeptical that we'll sign both Stiemer and Wilcox.

Wilcox is a fairly lousy center. Has been throughout his career.

Solid power forward though.

Don't forget Ainge has said Sullinger will probably play some 5 as well.

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing if Sully could do it.

People seem a bit carried away with their evaluations of Wilcox based on his brief run of success on the team.

It seems unlikely to me that we retain Stiemsma. He needs to go where the best contract is at this point in his career. It may be his only chance to cash in.

Yes, I like that crew. I really enjoyed this FanPost;
http://www.celticsblog.com/2012/6/21/3109022/the-ideal-10-man-rotation-for-a-well-balanced-team-according-to-doc

I think the Celtics have recognized that they just would have the chance to use their cap space for a superstar and have chosen to pursue the Spurs model to compete. That said I think we have done well to fill in most of the bench with real quality. I can a see deep C's team doing very well in the still weak East.

Rondo, Bradley, Terry is a nice Guard rotation and if Ray is back, its stocked!
Pierce, Green, Bass, Wilcox, KG, Steimsma, Sullinger, JJJ, Melo is a lot of front court options with nicely varied skill sets. Shooters, bangers, open court players, 1/2 court players...

I can see a second unit of Terry, Allen, Green and perhaps JJJ/Sullinger really adding an extra dimension to the second unit. Particularly since all those players can actually score points. Last year Dooling, Bradley, Peitrus, Wilcox, Steimsma - no scorers! Now Doc has options to balance out the units he plays.

I have not been thrilled with this offseason, I was hoping for a big name, Josh Smith, OJ Mayo, etc. PLayers you could see growing into stars/starters with Rondo. It wasn't in the cards but we will all enjoy watching playoff basketball again next spring.

I think our best chance at landing a big at this point would be through some form of sign and trade involving a 3-way with Ray if he decides to abandon us or through Minny via Stiemsma, no?

lets imagine that key big man minutes get distributed to KG, Bass, Steamer, Melo, Wilcox and Sullinger. And small forward and guard minutes go to PP, Green, Pietrus, Ray, Rondo, Bradley, and Jet.

I realize the playoff rotation shrinks but this gives us tremendous depth and variation and protection against inevitable injuries.

Does anyone think Mia if we get Ray, is better than the above squad?? I sure don't

If we can get them to game 7 without a bench and without our best defender against them with a limited Bosh I'd say that both rosters being healthy we'd continue to eat them up as we have in the past few years. Danny must agree or we'd be seeing a youth movement.

If Steamer and Wilcox are both brought back, I doubt we see Fab Melo in anything but garbage time.

KG, Steamer, Melo, Wilcox?

I wish.

It is more likely: KG, Wilcox, Melo, Sean Williams.
Maybe Kwame Brown if we're lucky enough that he'd take the BAE.
Celtics fan for life.

No way we don't match on Steimsma now that Ray is gone. Minny would have to offer him Darko Milicic money to pry hom away now.
