Now obviously we have seen how accurate Tanguay's gut is, but still pretty interesting.  Indy had to know somebody would sign Hibbert for big money didnt they?

For the Pacer to be a playoff team past the first round , they need Hibbert.  Without him they make the playoffs at best. But I doubt it. He'll probally be better this year.

He might not be worth the price in terms of talent compared to other franchise centers.  So, if they want to entertain their fans to the max and be part of the playoff picture , yes they need to match the offer.  They WON'"T find a better center available that will play for them. They won't get a better center unless they tank and draft. Not bringing him back is seriously stupid .

I thunk its a no brainer , yes... you have been screwed by Portland, but you need to keep your young talented center , they are costly and hard to find decent these days.

I think they bring him back or FOLD for the season.

Good for Indiana. That contract is a recipe for (long term) mediocrity.

good..one less issue for the celtics..if we can get howard out west...there will be no legit and big time centers to deal with in the east...this means KG would dominate

It's too much for Hibbert, but it's not an absurd contract.  4 years/$58M.  I'd rather pay Hibbert $14.5M a year than pay Jeff Green $10M.

Yeah.

Hopefully we don't end up paying green that, *shudder*.

Yea, 10 for Green is crazy. Would that make him the highest paid bench player? Cuz I can't think of anyone.

He's not going to be a bench player; I'd wager that Green's our new starting PF.  Bass will come off the bench.

That would be awful.

I'd probably ask for Doc to be fired if he ran that lineup out there, Green is a disaster against starting 4s.

Manu would be the guy I can think of off-hand.

Not sure it's too much.  He's not going to be a bench player for much longer and you have to pay him now since this is when we have to sign him.  He could go elsewhere and start now.

Do you think they're giving him $40M to be Pierce's backup?

Green may slot into the SF spot in two years, when Pierce likely retires, but there's a lot of smallball in store for the time.  I'm not saying I like it - but would you make that kind of commitment to Green, JUST to have him as a backup?  Especially now that you've got JET to be the 6th man?

JET made like $11M last year, didn't he?

There aren't many bench players earning that kind of money, and the ones that are out there are legitimate weapons.

No way I'd pay that for Green either, I'd call their bluff , let him cruze , if he believes he can get it .

That kind of money we should be making a play at Kaman, Hibbert, Josh Smith , no way .

I say let ALlen and Green go their way and get Josh Smith.

I'm not taking that figure when it appears to be agent fueled as being accurate.

And yes I think they'll play him as Pierce's backup primarily, because he's a good wing, but an awful power forward. Bass scores better, rebounds better, and defends better than Green has when they've both played PF.
