If I'm reading the CBA accurately, Ray can have a no-trade provision in his contract because he's been in the league more then 8 years and spent more then 4 years with the Celtics.

The possible reasons Ray doesn't sign with us:

1.  Hates Rondo
2.  Sick of Trade Talk
3.  Thinks Heat have a better chance to win

If it's #3, then fine.  It's a straight mercenary move and one that I think tarnishes his image a bit, but quit stalling and just man up.

If it's #2, why not request a no trade clause from Danny?  Hell, if he came out and said publicly that he'd re-sign if the C's included a no-trade clause I think Danny would have to cave.

If it's #1, don't let the door hit you on the way out.  In every job there's going to be someone you cannot get along with ... as an adult and a professional you just have to deal with it.  (I think this is the least likely option.)

Danny wouldn't even give Paul a no-trade clause. And if there is a Celtic that deserves it, its Paul.

So yeah, def don't see them giving Ray that sort of control.

My guess is that is the only reason Ray is not already resigned.  I think if Danny gave him a no-trade clause, then he would gladly stay with the C's.  However, Danny doesn't do that, and given that Danny has tried to trade him a couple times now, I can understand the reluctance to sign, if he really wants his next stop to be his last.

No other team can give him a no-trade clause...but they can give him a handshake agreement that they won't trade him without his consent (and with the power of agents these days, those are as good as binding).

I have a feeling if/when Ray signs with another team, this is going to be what comes out as the reason he left.

I want Danny to at least offer Ray a trade bonus.  He's clearly not going to offer a no-trade, because that's not how he operates, but an escalator could make the contract a little harder for the Celtics to trade, especially in year 1.

Well, with Ray it might be a little more palatable to Danny than PP, who signed his deal two years ago at much more money and at 4 years.  For Danny to commit 2 years and 12 million to Ray, that's not so hard to swallow in a no-trade clause.

I'd be up for it.

DA should have put that in all the Big 3's contracts.

Because he doesn't deserve one. If down the line we could work up a trade that would help the Celtics, but couldn't do it because Allen has a no trade, people would ask..."Why did we give him a no trade?"

i think now with the addition of terry and hoping the return of green..boston wouldn't need to make a move at the deadline...lets face it..they are going all in for a title in the next 2 years...do they think they are going to dump ray for a midseason improvement? i just don't see it...

this team with ray, bass, peaches, green, terry, wilcox, sully and melo is as deep as they have had in the past...i know it is business..but really..what is ray going to net you?

Well considering only Kobe and Dirk have no-trade clauses, Allen doesn't merit one.

Just make the second year a player option. De facto no trade clause.

Ray stay with C´s, you must retire with The Truth and KG, Big Three forever, Miami is our enemy number one and Lakers, I hate them.

Pierce and Garnett should talk to Ray for him to stay. If Ray is going to Miami, his legacy with the C's not the same.

I agree beside he's the all time 3pt leader I mean come on we could always use Ray as long as he can walk and run and spot up somewhere in the corner. I really hope Danny if not in writing lets Ray know he isn't going nowhere and won't be traded. I think this would be why he leaves if anything. I wouldn't even doubt it if Riley tells him they'll dangle you at he trade deadline over there HERE you aren't going anywhere and will be the first guy off the bench.

Just make the second year a player option. De facto no trade clause.

The difference here is that it's only a 2 year deal for a 37 year old player.  The market for Ray wasn't very good this year; it'll be worse this year or the year after, meaning that the C's likely won't be able to trade him anyway.

I wouldn't give Ray a no-trade deal if that wasn't the case, but because it is, I'd do it if it means he stays.

It'd also be another matter with letting Ray go if they then could go offer the same 2 year 12 million deal to someone else.  But if Ray goes, with the MLE already burned, the best they can offer is the LLE and the minimum.  That's a big difference in talent.
