I think this helps with Ray. I think it makes coming off the bench easier when another guy of the same caliber is willing to do it so easily. Also he would really help Ray with the second unit. People forget that Terry came into the league as a PG with Atlanta and replaced Nash at PG in Dallas. It wasn't until Devin Harris developed and played competitively against Tony Parker that he moved to the two and then to the bench ala Manu Ginolbli style.

Ray and Terry could really play off one another and spread the floor for each other. Bradley might be out until December and who knows how long it could take him to become the starter again. So I think there is plenty of opportunity for these guys and I think Ray will be back.

Now we just need to address our rebounding.

I don't think he's coming back.   I don't think Danny does either.  That's why he went so hard after Terry.

It'll be sad.  I was a little hard on Ray earlier today, but I will miss him.

This is the single most important reason why I think there's still a good chance for Ray to come back.  Danny and Doc should be pitching to Ray that he's going to be the starter going into the season.  Additionally, if the team is playing at an elite level there would be no reason for Ray's role to change even when Bradley returns.  We can't assume that Bradley will be playing at the same level when he returns.  It may take a month or two, which puts us into January/February.  At that point you aren't going to dramatically alter Ray or Terry's role if we are in a prime spot to compete for a title.  That's my sales pitch to Ray.

On the flip side, I believe Ray Allen is doing the smart thing by listening to all offers.  He has every reason to take his time.  If anything it might give him leverage to ask for a couple million more from the Celtics.

I don't know how Danny Ainge would feel about offering $8 Mil for 2 years, but part of me believe that he's willing to go all in for a title at this point.  It's not as if we have the ability to offer another player the same deal as Ray.

It was mentioned somewhere here that Ray is looking for:

1. a chance to play for a ring
2. playing time
3. job security
4. money

With the signing of terry, I think the chance for a championship is definitely bolstered, but the playing time part might take a hit. Ray hated the idea of being in constant trade rumors so that might be a factor too. Ray's ego was bruised when he was relegated to the bench. That plus the fact that he was nearly gone by the trade deadline last season certainly gave ray the impression that he was not liked by Boston anymore.  While we can offer more money, I think it will all come down to Ray's willingness to swallow his pride and take on a lesser role than what he's been used to. Rondo and PP were in trade rumors too, but we don't see or hear them make a big deal out of it. Ray is just a more sensitive guy i guess. Ray chided David West for not accepting less money to play for the Celtics and get a chance for a ring. He just might do that and decide to play for Miami or the Clippers. The fact that he's still shopping around proves that there are still some hurt feelings on his end.  He always said that Boston is the perfect fit for his family because of the medical facilities available for his little boy. But sadly, that isn't true anymore when it comes to his being a player with Boston as he obviously feels that he's still a starter in this league. Ray and Jet would be an awesome bench, but it doesn't look likely at the moment. I hope i'm wrong though.

Ray is so selfish taking more than a couple of days to decide the future of his family and career.  Doesn't he know CB'ers have important sign and trade details to work out a way to trade him for James Jones or Steve Novak?

Isn't James Jones retiring?

Up to Ray. I hope he sees it as a positive move. Moore is the one who should be worried.

He does not have to come off the bench if Doc plays it right.

At this point, it might be better for ray to take a couple of days before deciding.  Because as of right now, I am thinking ray is gone.

We need someone with Ray's size against larger SG's. If Pietrus can play SG then we might be OK; but he also lost a lot of mobility toward the end of the season.

Maybe because he was injured?

I would say it is over when Ray, KG or Pierce are playing with a different team.

Took him till July 7th and he visited other teams in 2010 last time he was a FA.

I agree that with the addition of Terry he might leave over having his role reduced, but lets not get too crazy.  He apparently has planned visits Thur/Fri so the 7th or 8th again seems a likely time table for him.
