I like it if Toronto is doing this to block the Knicks from getting Nash.

I like it much less if Toronto is signing Fields to convince Jeremy Lin to sign with them.

Knicks match?

Not with the yr 3 spike. They likely couldn't, unless they amnestied/traded Amar'e.

Billups was amnestied. Have to be a trade.

Ah right, I had completely forgotten.

In case anyone else had forgotten, they amnestied Billups a couple months after they extended him. Effectively the NBA equivalent of the scene in 'The Dark Knight' when the Joker burns his half of the money.

"They won't work for a FREAK!"   ;D

But smart power play by Raps they are really all in on Nash.  Bet he ends up there.

PG: Nash, Calderon
SG: DeRozan, Ross
SF: Fields, Kleiza
PF: Bargnani, E.Davis
C: A.Johnson, J.Valanciounas

How good a team is that squad?

Valanciounas better start.  But they are a playoff team near the end of the seeding.  You have to account for the destruction of ATL and we aren't sure what the Nets are going to have right now.

Valanciounas better start.  But they are a playoff team but little more.

I don't expect Jonas to start right away. Maybe by mid-season or else in his second year. But I doubt he gets the starting nod right off the bat.

I was going to say.. As somebody with Amir Johnson on their fantasy team in a keeper league im flattered you still have him starting

Definitely a playoff team in the East. Needs another experienced, legit big.

Raps will either amnesty Calderon or trade him for additional depth. I think they also have rights to Jerryd Bayless to use.

About as good as Phoenix has been the last two years, I'd imagine.

The Nash/Fields/Bargs/Jonas quartet is roughly comparable to Nash/Dudley/Frye/Gortat talent-wise no?

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

I'd agree with that.  But in the East instead of the West that gives them a 6, 7, or 8 seed.  And Jonas, Bargnani, Ed Davis, and DeRozan all have far more upside (especially with Nash) than anyone Phoenix had last year.

I think they will be a good deal better than Phoenix unless Nash totally falls off the face of the planet as Bargs is way better than anyone on Phoenix and you aren't even including guys like DeRozan who are pretty solid.

Your take was pretty close to mine at first, but after I thought about it for a minute I had to wonder, how much better is Bargs than Gortat really?

Jonas is a big factor here too.  Chad Ford and other scouts say he would've went #2 in this year's draft and is developing very nicely.

Other teams liked him a lot last year too but were afraid he wouldn't come to the NBA anytime soon.  ESPN reported that his agent was giving Cleveland the runaround so that he would wind up in Toronto (a bigger market with a more international populace).

Almost $10 million in the last year.  A disaster contract if Nash decides to go elsewhere.  Good chance he won't though as TOR is promising management clout after retirement down the line and he'll be raking in marketing money too.  Knicks aren't going to win with him anyhow (but he does live in NYC).

Remember that would be the cap hit for New York if they match.  The cap hit for Toronto is the average of all of the three years.

And they had excess cap room in Year 1 and he becomes an expiring contract, and a tradeable one, in Year 3.  This would only be really painful in Year 2, IMO.

Adding Nash would be a nice way to facilitate the growth of JV and Terrence Ross, and maybe help Derozen recapture some of that potential that dissapeard last year.

Also let's not forget about James Johnson.  He showed flashes last year.  You've got to figure Nash would find a way to get the most out of his versatile game.
